BTW - if all goes well next week and Chinese don’t arrest me for dragging bunch of tubes around, there will be one more 274b for comparison - PSvane ACME 274b

Maybe it’s related to voltage as Lampi should use 5V rectifiers
Yep. My OTL can only take 5v rectifiers as well, but I had Deyan make me a 4v to 5v adapter and it sounds fantastic. Not sure if it would work in the TRP with the adapter or not,but heeding Fred's advice I wont try it. 69571832_497263344404473_5266269163533369344_o.jpg 69652886_497263551071119_8428147125329592320_o.jpg

@Monsterzero you might want to check over on the Glenn thread or with Deyan, but I don't think that adapter converts from 5v to 4v. I think it just "adapts" the base pins. And I think the Glenn OTL is setup for a 5v or 4v rectifier. I also tried one of these adapters on another amp of mine and blew a fuse :) (luckily just a fuse).

Anyone tried the Mullard EL37 with this DAC? As per most vintage tubes there appears to be many variations of this tube as well. Fat bulbous glass, regular coke bottle style glass, halo getter, square getter, etc....

Something I've been meaning to drop into the discussion is that a tube vendor in England who seems to know his stuff (has a hard science research background) said the following about the Taki rectifier after taking a look online: "the Taki is nicely made, from what I can see its a direct clone of a WE original with a price tag to match." FWIW.

Well, I have my Tak rectifier up for sale, but your statement is tempting me to keep it, lol.

Not sure if relevant or not, but I have the Tak 300B's in an amp, and haven't been tempted to roll in other 300B's.

Just spoke with Ked and i don’t have an answer to your question at the moment nor will have it till mid Oct. as the house is full non stop and all the listening is done purely to enjoy some music with the kids. But yeah even like this i would say they are exceptional all of them and maybe we talk about small differences in this or that way. And i listen with RK242s at the moment. Seems to me there will be some crazy weekend down the road with huge recti shootout...and Fabio has Taka on top so we are well stashed ;)

Fat bottle way better than skinny and much more expensive. Fat is fast, skinny is slow. Skinny is like $150, Fat is like 350.

To what degree is that true in general? I've been told that the old Fat Boy KT66's were the best of the lot. I've also been told that in production the best testing 25% of KT66's went to the military, and thus presumably got darkened, while the next 50% went to the public and remained transparent, while the rest came out under other names or whatever. At the same time, audiophiles have been reluctant to buy the darkened ones, whether simply out of appearance or perhaps out of distrust for or ignorance of what military quality meant in terms of sound quality.

My bad Highstream, I misread as GZ37 ...the rectifier. No clue about EL37 output tube.

And now the Million Dollar question:
What is your ranking of all the rectifiers you have at hand?
Fugly Frank 596, PSVane 274b, Elrog 274b and the RK 5u4g?

That is the million dollar question. I wish we could somehow connect and try out the RK60, U52, and Brimar 5Z4Y that I have incoming to the costlier heavy hitters Psvane 274B, and Elrog 274B.

At least we will have some new relative datapoints since I also have the 596, and RK 5U4G.

I believe these are the first 5 types of GEC/Osram KT66. The first four (from left to right) are the earliest with the larger ST glass type. I also believe the VT-75 was the type used by the RAF (Royal Air Force). Most have the inverted saucer getter, although two have a very flat circular getter.

Btw, which other Psvane tubes besides the 274B did you get?
Other ones are ACME 211 and WE Replica 101d - but not for me...

Does anyone know if the U50 rectifier can be used with Lampi DACs? I have a Marconi U50 stashed away that I want to try.
