11:37 PM: Hoboken announces night curfew, restrictions on bars and restaurants

"Hoboken Mayor Ravinder S. Bhalla on Saturday announced a citywide curfew to prevent the spread of the coronavirus, one of the first such curfews ordered in the United States since the outbreak began.
The curfew will be in effect nightly from 10 p.m. to 5 a.m. starting Monday. During that time, all residents will be required to stay in their homes except for emergencies and required work.
Additionally, bars and restaurants will no longer be allowed to serve food within their establishments, and bars that only serve alcohol will have to shut down entirely. Food service will be limited to takeout and delivery only.
Bhalla said in a statement on Twitter that keeping residents off the streets and out of bars overnight would free up emergency workers already stretched thin by the public health crisis.
“I completely recognize that these measures will result in substantial changes and inconveniences to our daily lives,” Bhalla said. “However, these measures are being taken to save lives and protect our residents.”
The extraordinary moves came just days after officials reported the first confirmed case of coronavirus in the city of 55,000. Statewide, New Jersey has reported 69 confirmed cases of coronavirus and one death."

How about this flash

Every Apple store in the world except China is closed until end of March

And I was ridiculed for buying my new iPhone last week because I was concerned that it would not be possible to do so in a month or two. I’m glad I followed my instinct. I was actually surprised that it was not very crowded. Lots of touching in an Apple store.

What I've said previously about Apple: only Apple and the rest of the world will see if that was a wise move to reopen Apple stores (42) in Greater China, from Tim Cook.
He might fry on that one, cooked for good ...

Bob, in the end it is the responsibility of people to manage their own lives. Just because the stores are open doesn't mean one has to go. Businesses have done a great job in closing to protect their workers and their communities. But even as they start to open up people have to make decisions for themselves.

My buddy sells wholesale foods. Last March he sold 3.2 M, this Wednesday in one day he sold 4.1M because of the run on food

I've seen no mention of this elsewhere on the site

John from Midland AudioX is reporting that Mik (108CY) is desperately ill with Coronavirus. His father Manik has sadly passed away

I'm guessing that like myself there are many here who would wish to extend their sympathy, thoughts and best wishes for the speediest of recoveries

Here’s a bit of levity:

On a boat, hoarding is called provisioning.
Yep Peter, the upper classes in the sailing community are provisioning like there's no tomorrow. I've never seen so many butlers carrying toilet rolls.

I had heard that, but was unsure whether to say anything. It's a pretty private thing I guess. Good luck to him.

Boris has announced that in the next few weeks, over-60s will be obliged to self isolate/quarantine for maybe 3-4 months, and a big community effort to be made to visit them and keep them sane.

Industry, esp car sector, being asked to switch to ventilator production. Hotels and private hospitals being encouraged to open up beds capacity.

No sign of enforced shutdowns/distancing in general population on the horizon.

If quarantining of over-60s goes on for 4 yrs or more, I'll have to join in as Apr 2024 elapses Lol.

Lagonda, when you hear Vyger/Red Sparrow/Mayers/Pnoes, and THAT lp collection at The General's...you realise HE'S the one speaking perfect English, and we're all toddlers at 18 months old trying to utter one understandable syllable.

That's the only way ... draconian measures for a very nasty virus.
It's not waiting till Monday to shut down more airports and theaters etc., that is going to help, it's right now.
Extreme circumstances require extreme measures without a single minute to waste.
That's the big problem; everybody is waiting till it hits them when it already did without their knowing.
In the UK we are deliberately not relying on distancing. But for those nations that are, it's preposterous to wait a week. Maybe time to get a negotiating team and bargain w the little Covids for a bit of a ceasefire?

Marc, you don't need to be rich or part of the upper classes to enjoy a boat. You just need to be an old man on the sea. ;)

Like with audio, you need spirit and a willingness to learn. It helps if you put in some effort and know where you want to end up.
