Yes Steve. I mentioned that even in NYC they say "projected" to fill beds at some places. This is one reason why I'm suspicious if the majority of the wave are latent responses. The body often has a way of holding off and gearing up for a fight. Maybe one of the bigger issues is that there's no one to transfer patients? I know one hospital north of NYC is prepared for covid19 patients from NYC or anywhere, but only a couple have arrived.

The most important question a friend asked that is rather thought provoking is, "why does the government suddenly care so much about all of us?" When you think about it like that, and that the numbers aren't so far turning out to be overwhelming brutal, are we just playing into some sorta fantasy election game? (not intended to be a question to be addressed by specifics from any party, just the fact that obviously everyone wants to "do the best job" and win the public over)

With epicenters in Los Angeles and NYC here is what I find strange. The answer I am hearing is that the hospitals in both city are NOT filled. Possibly this has been due to the cancellation of elective procedures thus freeing up beds

Pardon my asking Steve, but can you enlighten me as to how people in the US can get treatment for Covid 19 if they do not have medical insurance cover, or they are part of the 6m plus who have lost their jobs very recently and the medical insurance they had with their previous employer.
Does Obamacare meet their costs of treatment?

Steve, I think it varies by location. I have heard that the hospitals in Brooklyn and Queens are filled. I am sure they are also preparing for the apex since they are still seeing more new infections that require hospitalization than recoveries. They set up the Javits Center in Manhattan with tons of beds in anticipation of being full. I think they are using that for recovering patients, not critical ones.

The promise to all was that no one will incur medical expense based on this diagnosis. Typically for those insured, patient copayment would be waived by hospital, doctor, lab etc, etc

For those who have lost their medical insurance because they lost their jobs, I am certain they\ would qualify under medicaid, (medical in California)

bottom line Barry everyone is being treated regardless of coverage

That is good to know.

Generally hospitals are not allowed to reject emergency patients.

That's a big problem. There are a LOT of scared people clogging the system. That could be the primary reason some get unnoticed and then go critical to possibly dead.

That was my general understanding but I am conscious that a lot of people will require significant treatment in intensive care units for weeks and that will be expensive.
Meeting the costs of that will determine whether many live or die and I will look at the reports on the current briefing later.

They are literally covering this topic now during the briefing.

As stated above.......
Bottom line Barry is that all patients are treated and the federal government will reimburse the hospital for the uninsured patient with Covid-19

I am sure I missed some updates. But the last I heard the government was covering the cost of tests. These tests are being done off site in my area. Most are drive thru.
Emergency care is paid for by the government. And philantrophic contributions. Some require the hospital to at least attempt to collect as a precursor to reimbursement.
At least in my neck of the woods.
P.S. also the doctors who work wirh no pay.
NO ONE SHOULD DELAY TREATMENT FOR FINANCIAL REASONS!

After this is over, and the gov't spends too much $$ on a huge stash of N95 masks for the peeps, another illness will come along and there will be all kinds of shouting because, well, you should have known we needed N96 masks, the N95 masks just don't cut it.

I wear P100 masks when I'm out....

A mask can reduce a positive COVID’s negative influence, which is better than nothing.

I think treatment will be available to all. The prospect of a crippling financial dent os real.

I stand corrected. Hospitals will be reimbursed by the federal government.

Well I’m glad the US is finally acknowledging that masks may be useful. For those still not convinced there is some literature out there worth reading. Here’s one.

https://www.nature.com/articles/s41591-020-0843-2.epdf?shared_access_token=f6a04VahwVMKX2UtX3CPVtRgN0jAjWel9jnR3ZoTv0PkjAYoM9jLkwZQW5utCqnyBUezgozG8oaDAP2ttzghLwr5h6Pujxhh9nHg9qqbbmGjHjB4f38wFcyRxD2DOH-ZJW0PNAQfhNUWWfv2lUblbw==
Masks have always been known to be useful to protect others (rather than the wearer), and that is still the main reason to wear one now. The difference is that there is (finally!) more “official” acknowledgement of the obvious fact that this disease is being spread by asymptomatic and/or pre-symptomatic people.
