This is partially correct - here are the facts from the CSIRO:

2 April: CSIRO begins first stage of testing COVID-19 vaccines

CSIRO commenced pre-clinical trials for two COVID-19 vaccine candidates at our high-containment facility, the Australian Animal Health Laboratory in Geelong in late March. This work is part of our strategic partnership with the Coalition for Epidemic Preparedness Innovations (CEPI), who engaged us in January to help build an understanding of the virus that causes COVID-19.

In consultation with?the World Health Organisation,?CEPI has identified vaccine candidates from The University of Oxford (UK) and Inovio Pharmaceuticals Inc. (US) to undergo?the first?pre-clinical trials at CSIRO, with further candidates likely to follow. CSIRO is testing the COVID-19 vaccine candidates for effectiveness We are also evaluating the best way to give the vaccine for better protection, including an intra-muscular injection and innovative approaches like a nasal spray.

Rob
I understand that CSRIO are also testing a vaccine candidate developed by University of Qld a few weeks ago - they are one of the CEPI worldwide coalition of research facilities ( thank goodness for its existence) and possibly some others I recall

I heard the Chair of CEPI being interviewed this morning and the 12-18 month time line was again reinforced as best case

There must be so much effort going into this around the world

lets hope some of the many treatments being investigated that can be bought online quicker to stop this being such a disaster for the older population

Yesterday at work was probably the the most stressful day of work in my entire life. We were just continuing as normal operations, since we are essential services. I came home so incredibly and obviously wigging out my wife had to talk me off the ledge, we were doing nothing different as far as handling customer interactions, business as usual.
I lit up my upper management via text and brought in my colleagues into the mix, this went well into the night. I got through to them and I got in early before anyone else, since I didn't sleep for shit, and started setting up some new processes that everyone is following happily.
Finally I relaxed and feel comfortable being there and had a good day.
It is no surprise to anyone here that I am in favor of keeping the country open but with modifications. But holy shit the denial and stupidity was overwhelming.

Interesting using hydrogen peroxide to sterilise. I would be concerned how close those face shields appear in the photo and if the H2O2 can actually penetrate between them. Also H2O2 is quite unpleasant. I wonder how residues are dealt with. Could be a good idea until stocks are enough though.

The H2O2 vapor easily penetrates any space between the masks. It would be my guess that you can "wash away" residues of the H2O2 vapor with water vapor, so there should be nothing left. This might be a procedure that the machine actually uses.

I hope so. Anyway I'm sure they tested it beforehand. :)

I think i sent my 9th shipment of masks overseas this morning. They've now gone to New York, New Jersey, Bari (Italy), and the UK.
You could really tell how a person is during this difficult period. I have to give you a bow Howie. My Chinese suppliers also have been sending me thousands of face mask without me asking so that I could distribute to hundreds of my employees. Problem is not the money. The problem is the availability.

Absolutely Tang. Availability was a major headache here in Jan/Feb. It has now eased a little but N95 are still scarce and masks still command a premium. We even got some from Thailand through a friend there.

If the CDC or WHO changes their tune with regards to mask wearing, there will another run. I hope China is ploughing ahead with production.

I think @ddk will like this... A little perspective.

You know when you see them interview someone in NYC they have been saying things like "we are projected to fill all the beds". It's not good, it's not fun, but pandemic? How much fear is appropriate? We are all so use to the things that can kill us prior to it, one must wonder a bit when this will get grouped in.

Anecdotally my uncle may have had it. He would have got it at a casino (he loves them). No fever, and they never ran his test sample. But he coughed like a m*********** for awhile, like drop to the knees. He also likes to chain smoke and drink Coke like a fish in water.

Perspective is what this is all about.

Live less than 2 km away from Canada's hot spot. Lynn Valley Care Center.
Mother in law 86 young, grandma is 106, no assisted living, still lives on her own.
My wife helps her with the groceries, especially now.
Grandma at the dinner table recently said "kids now a days are in such poor shape".
I thought she is talking about my kids. " no no, kids in their 70s, 80s and 90s. They can's hear, use wheelchairs, play multiple (she is down to 9) bingo cards , they can't even make it up the stairs." She lives on the third floor.
As a child she lived through the Spanish flue, forced into internment isolation camps during WWII and all the other distractions since then.
She said "Be happy and stay safe, there are always going to be a roadblocks."

We are still building homes, several sites, progress is slow.
Many suppliers do not allow to come in to the stores. Place order and we will deliver. Lots of social distance between individuals and not over loading the site with too many trades. We have sanitizer, both in and outside. Portable toilet gets locked, people stealing the Purell hand cleaner. Staff and trades know the drill, if sick do not even think about showing up. Most trades working for me now for 30+ years.

My shower door contractor called and he was in a dentist chair getting work done.
That dentist had visited the Dental Convention here in Vancouver. Twenty people tested positive and one dentist passed away. Shower door guy says he feels fine, ok to stop by ? I laced into him saying he should self quarantine. "But Mike I feel fine.."
I said call me in two weeks. Some people just don't get it.

One of my old client (build their home in 97) who is an MD called me to see how we are doing. "You know Mike, can't believe that in this day and age we have to tell people to wash their hands, do not touch your face. Stay inside and stay 2m apart. Pretty simple really."

Personally, if we do what Dr Bonnie Henry ( Provincial Health Officer of BC ) orders and everybody complies with social distancing, wash your hands, do not touch your face, isolate we can beat this virus. But takes everyone, all of us no exceptions.

The media shows how people sing and preform on their balconies around the world.
These are typically always good news stories at the end of the news broadcasts.
Only watch the news once a day. Too much Covid-19 being bombarded
Sitting and listening to music as I type away. Lucky to have this as my distraction.

Take care, be safe and stay positive.

I think the real danger is folks will figure out how easy it really is to cut hair.

I've been cutting my own hair for years, and have even been complimented on it by hairdressers I met at a bar.

I'd encourage anyone to give it a go, the worst that'll happen is you'll have to cut it shorter than you intended, but we're all sitting at home for the most part anyways. :)
I was wearing a pony tail for years. Finally decided change is needed, old hair dresser no longer around so tried cutting my own hair.

Bought 3 panels mirror that hangs in shower .... now only takes 20 minutes with my Braun electric hair clipper. Experiment different styles .... kind of fun :)

Your news about your uncle reminded me of a report in The Times just the other day.
British American Tobacco are working with a pharmaceutical company to develop a vaccine for Covid 19 after discovering that the virus can't survive in tobacco plants.
It would be ironic to say the least if smokers are better protected from the virus than non smokers.
