I get it. I truly get it. What you don’t get is I’m not a tube roller. I look for the most natural sound and typically stick with that. The KR/42 gives me all of that plus the dynamics and oomph to bring my system alive. Having said that I will try the RK-KR PX25 this week

Excellent.;)

Crazy post. I have been through all I own again as you have been told.

My DAC has a mod to send 242 into meltdown, though. So I have missed that one out.

:D

Sorry Steve just keeping Ked on his toes;)

No, you tried all the KR with your previous preamp, so I consider that null and void. 242, PX25, Lampi 45s, PX4, 101d, were not with you with the Luxman preamp, nor was KR recti. Maybe RK 300 was but that is a sh*t valve

Give up Ked. I am superior to you and you know it.

My DAC is better and my system actually exists. And my Lampi valve collection is huge compared to yours.

Worship me.

I will worship you for your 211 Amperex collection. Not for anything else. That will be negated by the unoptimized laptop with jriver the you use for streaming with a Maplin level USB cable. It will become much simpler if you listen to Henk's apogee, Christoph's scintilla, or someone else's Lampi for you to understand why.

Dammit I don't use that USB cable anymore. I had a Lampizator one and there was no difference, so I sold it.

Henk has a way to go before he can beat Jon. Jon is just better. When he can be arsed. Which isn't very often.

How would you know if you never heard Henk's. I have heard 4 apogees in the UK, including two of yours, 4 of Henk's.

Instinct. And the fact I told Jon what to do. Then I personally optimised the x-over. Because the first attempt was rubbish.

That said, like anything, they could be better. And I can't pretend I actually made them. But then nor can Jon. Or Graz. It's a sum of parts made by people of varying expertise. Which is true of anything vaguely bespoke of some complexity.

When making stuff, there is a degree of crossing your fingers and hoping for the best. If you are actively interested in the hobby, though, it is the only way to go.

You are right. Instinct should always tell you the one you made is better than the one you haven't heard

Correct. Anything you haven't had a part in making must be rubbish.

That's why I am not waiting for your horn effort. Which you will initially hate yourself, then modify.

I am not making it. I outsource. I have no pretense of being the great designer. There are already people who have been there and done that. For example, if I wanted an apogee, I would tell Henk, not try to do it myself, like you did. Sure, that is part of the hobby, and get your kicks that way if you want, but be realistic about how good it is.

You missed the point there.

The point will get repeated the next time you try to save the world from KR valves

I am not saying they are bad. They just have issues better designs don't. I own both EML and KR as you know, and I use them from time to time.

So eat your heart out Ked. Facts are facts and if you want to get upset about that so be it.

If you had more experience you would realise it. But you don't.

Guys I really do like you both, but please go for a beer/fish&chips/curry and discuss things you have to discuss as this ping pong is kind of pointless and disturbing for many ;).
Thanks for understanding

Knowing Justin's music tastes, fish and chips seems spot on.

Unfortunately my seafood dishes are more sea bass with herbs, Goan fish curry, sushi, sashimi, so on

Dang, I had just ordered rk242 from best300b on 6/4. So I guess I am in for a long wait.
Not intending to spread more gloom, but my order of KR tubes placed through a dealer has been stuck in a Prague airport for the last 5 weeks - no flights out. This is through KR, not Lampi/best300b, so the reasons may be different - or the same. I don't know.
The dealer whom I purchased the amps from is graciously letting me use his demo amp output tubes, so I'm operational.
