Gian's system - Vyger-Opus vs Techdas AF3, SAT+Lyra Lambda

I was concerned for a while that we might end up comparing differences between the various tonearm lengths as well o_O Hmmm yes image not helpful.

Hahaha... I’ve got nothin.

For pagannini, I prefer 3, then 2. I is a distant last because it sounds dead to me.

3 is Opus, 2 is lambda, 1 is the koetsu.

On vocals, 1 is Opus, 2 is again lambda, 3 is koetsu.

Here is another Opus violin

Is this Nigel Kennedy by any chance? Looking forward to the Dead Can Dance and Jazz videos. Many thanks for recording and sharing.

No Salvatore accardo on Fone label. Both pagannini and vivaldi

Jazz at the pawnshop with koetsu

This is from two years ago with basis super arm on the AF3 premium with Lyra atlas SL. It onmy plays the last part of the above track.

Wonderful, many thanks for recording and sharing. Appreciate the time and effort you and Gain and have put into these videos.

AF3P is very sensitive to weight and material of the platter weight.

Listening to Gian's recordings, I would assume, that a more heavy metal platter weight is in use?

The sonic difference between the gun metal Micro Seiki version, the hybrid Harmonix and the graphite Audio Tekne Platter weight versions is bigger on AF3P , than on my other turntables.

A further difference is the platter vacuum. Without platter weight Air can flow through the middle pin . Using a platter weight with a rubber lip (like many of them have) will increase the vacuum force under the record significantly,
sound is changing accordingly.

To get more energy and emotional weight in the lower end, the Harmonix version is an interesting alternative.
The Audio Tekne will give more energy to the vocals.

With Maxx3 I was using Harmonix, with the Osiris I am using the Micro Seiki Gun Metal one.

The two TechDAS platter weights were too short in my hands to get a full understanding of their effects, will check them soon.
...winter is coming :)

Nice shakti .
How would you describe the maxx 3 sound compared to the avalon osiris?

Ps i reckon the absolute top model of avalon would be called amun ra .
The top deity of ancient egypts religion .

Osiris is much more "complete" in direct comparison,
Maxx 3 lacks resolution, lacks the authentic and natural view into the recording room
Osiris is a big step forward. The contrast between different recording is much more enhanced and obvious, the level of details, micro dynamics is much better and well integrated.
Osiris needs much more power, I would say, needs BiAmping as well.

But this is the thread about Gian's turntable comparison,

to follow up on Osiris:

And let's be honest. I don't mean this disparagingly either, but the cost of the MSB solution to arrive at "almost as good as vinyl" that goes "poof" pretty quickly isn't logical either. Personally, I've heard the GG, but I'm not sure if it was the "1.5". Nevertheless, I didn't have the vibe described herein side by side a relatively modest-by-our-standards vinyl frontend. The convenience factor, however, could easily win me over were I more capable of casting aside hereditary OCD tendencies. And so if I tend to relegate digital to music discovery and/or background hassle-free entertainment purposes, then going all out or even close to it just offends my sensibilities. To each their own.

that is fair. i can't justify my level of investment in digital logically. it was one of those "how far can i go?" things. i've been like that mostly. maybe if i was digital only and used the MSB as my preamp i would be approaching the 'logical zone'. the GG was never as impressive objectively as the MSB is to me, but there were moments that it really captured me (and i was in fact gaga). obviously i moved on to the Aqua Formula from it.....as a better system fit.

where i don't agree is viewing digital as 'relegated' to second rate. more that i view vinyl as "first rate+++". but i have fully invested in digital. and you are right that does not make equal sense to everyone. but everyone's 'fully invested' is different, including for vinyl.

to each their own.

The Aqua formula stands fifth or sixth in jazzhead's digital collection (i compared 4 and it would be 3 or 4 with trinity).

There is a guy I know who preferred the Atlantic to his aqua formula.

Larry toy has 15000 Decca and EMI originals and many tapes and enjoys his Lampi, that says a lot. He bought it used to try, and was provided great service on it (as the used product is backed ) and he also got a great trade in from GG to Pac. He has been attending classical concerts since the 60s and his wife is an expert pianist, he has ensembles playing at his place, owns two Bosendorfers and he and his daughter play viola
