Do Mobile Fidelity Vinyl Re-issues Have a Digital Step in the Process?

I ended up reading the rest of the thread before you replied, so my apologies for the redundant question! Thank you so much for breaking it down thoroughly. I understand better now.

to use a car analogy it’s like AMG stops hand building engines, and has them built in Some lower cost labour market with robots , but still puts the AMG badge with the engineers signature on the engine ( I am sure they would be good engines, just not the same thing)
some time later we find this out, and people say “ but the engines are good” Yes they are, but they are not “exclusive” and that’s what the AMG badge implied , as now they are mass produced, not hand built .
Yeah.... when the 35/43/45 came out.... folks were up in arms... don't even mention folks buying "AMG" nameplates and sticking them on the back... LOL

This is why I feel scammed by mobile Fidelity/Music Direct.

the first one step I bought was Bill Evans Sunday, when it came ouT. I liked it and continued to purchase other titles, assuming the quality was the same. My analog rig was down for a while and so I couldn’t really evaluate the new one steps I purchased.

Then of course we find out that the only actual analog LP was Sunday (there might have been one more).

I’m not a lawyer but I wonder if the bait and switch aspect of MFSL offerings is problematic.

Well I feel scammed by Acoustic Sounds selling me SACD's that are not true DSD files....
Nice strawman argument. I feel scammed when I fill my car with gas, that’s actually a liquid.

There are three lawsuits asking a similar question:

Case: 1:22-cv-04405 - STILES v MOBILE FIDELITY SOUND LAB, INC (North Carolina)

Case 1:22-cv-04714 - Bitterman v. Mobile Fidelity Sound Lab, Illinois

Case 2:22-cv-01081 - Tuttle et al v. Audiophile Music Direct Inc, Washington Western District

Our davidavdavid informed me that Mobile Fidelity has, once again, changed the visual workflow description of its Ultra Disc One Step Process:

View attachment 98793

Note that the representation of a reel-to-reel tape as the first step has been removed completely.

Note, more importantly, that any reference to the DSD conversion step also has been eliminated! How does hiding — once again — the digital conversion step fulfill Jim Davis’ promise of transparency going forward?
What is wrong with these guys? Its all about money. All analog is more expensive. It certainly is not better to add a digital step. Cmon man. I have never liked their reissues. I have a few but my fascination with MoFi ended when I purchased Linda Rohnstadts Prisoner in Disguise MOFI and compared it to a 3 dollar original. I was not even close and I do believe that particular MOFI is all analog. I just did not like the way they remastered it. All this does not surprise me. They were not exactly honest when they put on almost every record "Original Master Recording" is not exactly being totally upfront.

The first case Tuttle et al is beginning settlement. First retail purchasers can get return an album for a full refund or keep it and get a 5% refund or a 10% off coupon.

Thanks for posting this. At least it’s a step in the right direction towards some justice.

This would save people a lot of time versus selling the albums on eBay

Thanks for the update. Movement, finally. Any timeline for this being court approved and communicated via legal documents?

Does that mean MoFi accept the claim against them?

Mobile Fidelity made certain conciliatory statements in its initial public reply.

What do you mean by “accept the claim”?

Accepting the claim isn’t necessarily an apposite concept in a American legal settlement context. Individuals and entities often enter into settlement agreements regardless of their beliefs about the underlying facts.

They denied all the allegations. And they should with deeper pockets they would win but it would cost more in legal fees than the preliminary settlement will cost.

I talked with Mike Esposito yesterday. He thinks the only risk of significant returns is the Carol King albums. Why return any album selling for more than the retail price on the secondary market? And based on the preliminary settlement motion. 25% were purchased directly and 75% were purchased from Best Buy, Walmart, and Independent Record Stores.

Asking prices on the secondary market are not the same as selling prices on the secondary market. I would welcome the opportunity to sell my stack of UD1Ss at the purchase prices + shipping.

From the Motion for Preliminary Approval of the Tuttle Settlement, which is a public document:

Then you should do so. Mike Esposito told me something different yesterday about pricing.

I personally will never post anything from PACER.
