Which turntable do you prefer and why?

I think people are confusing the question as to if this is going to be only one data point. The way I read Peter’s question is if this trend will lead to multiple data points. No one is going to take one video and decide on any gear.

I heard the Techdas AF3P a few weeks ago with top of the line DS optical in Phantom 44 and I´m so relieved I didnt buy it and went for the Melco instead, despite I got a seriously good offer
besides looking like a cheap chunk of plastic, it sounded terrible.....a Thorens Reference with Shick and SPU Anniversery was miles ahead in musicality and realism
then came the "all outed" Studer A810 and nuked them both out of the waters
ha-ha

sorry for the thread detour to respond. 2011 to 2018 was a great time for me hobby-wise.

upgraded speakers and amps in 2012 (funded somewhat by offing extra tt's) which caused a significant jump in the performance ceiling, got the room dialed in in 2015, had not changed my digital since 2007, so in 2015 dived deep into digital and servers, upgraded the server a couple times and the dac three/four times, really brought my digital a long ways. i did enjoy your first visit and you enjoyed my vinyl. heard some other turntables over this period which pushed me to focus more on vinyl and buy other turntables in 2018.

lots of system evolution stuff going on too. interacted with Taiko on anti-resonance product development for a few of those years.

it was a rich satisfying time for me, and would not change a thing and no time wasted. i know your comment was mostly in jest.

in any case my 5 months of retirement so far has caught me up on vinyl listening for sure.

These videos, like others, cannot tell us absolutely anything about their real qualities and characteristics of the devices involved. The reasons are so obvious that listing them would be trivial and tedious.

At most they serve to increase the exposure of the products but above all of those who produce them. There are those who make videos to actually advertise their blog, right down to the simplest and most disinterested hobbyist who seeks, through consensus, a form of gratification for the many sacrifices made.
So if these videos are made as pure advertising or as a form of entertainment, that's fine, but elevating them to tools capable of expressing the playback characteristics of a system is not a good thing.

That is why I wrote my assessment in #24 with a caveat (emphasis added):

"I think the lack of flow, emotion and articulation of the K3 can be traced to a substantial extent to its presentation of cymbals and drums, at least as captured in the video."

I prefer the OMA in this set up, I may prefer the Techdas in another. My listening impressions match what MF hears in room:

it's almost like generalizing about driver types. or when some postulate detail apparently is not desired.

lots of people wing it. some are nice doing it, and some act like offensive buffoons.
