The $1 A/D might be a great one. The low costs of mass produced IC chips is not an indication of quality. Most audio dacs are built with low cost off the shelf dac I C chips, including yours. Look at the $250K WADAX dac, built around a $2.50 Texas Instruments (TI)/Burr-Brown DAC IC chip.

Need to come up with a better argument than this. The Integrated Circuits Technology segment is light years more evolved, developed, and more advanced than the high-end audio world.

I just looked it up on Mouser. My Texas Instruments DAC IC chip is between $ 14 and $ 29, depending on version (don't know which one my DAC has). My DAC has four of those chips. You do the math. So much for your argument.

And BTW, that Texas Instruments chip is a modern one, not like a vintage Burr Brown.

Please continue the never ending litigation about the representativeness of videos over one of the video threads.

Ron, if you would have put your disclaimer into the video, we would not have had to have this discussion.

I just don’t understand the point of taking 15 mins to get only video clips of 1/3rd part of such an interesting venue.

I liked the choice of cuts from Dire Straits. Been awhile.
With all the hoopla, for the dealer's sake, I hope it's not representative.

It would be nice to hear from Ron about whether or not he thinks the video sounds anything like what he heard. I had thought there was a prohibition on all M9 videos. I’m surprised that Ron was able to take this video and release it.

How exactly would this be enforcable. Does Magico have a satellite?

I don’t know. I just remember reading of previous visits to Rhapsody Dallas where videos were made of the other systems but not the M9. And the author explained that he could not record the big Magico. Perhaps Ron got special permission.

Recording stealth.

I can understand that with such an exclusive product, that Magico wouldn't be fond of the obligatory video sniping and would want any demos to be live only.

LOL! A price to DAC chip ratio of 2000 vs.100,000 at the Wadax $250K price point from @Carlos?

With huge chips offering incredible processing power these days at amazing bit depths, I imagine all kinds of intervening magic processing is possible. I wonder how many of these exotic solutions are straight up DA. My rather ordinary Yamaha 'Enhancer' seems to include some dynamic range expansion characteristics.

What, you mean they wouldn't want Carlos and Al arguing over their merits or otherwise via video? I can't think why not.

It would be nice to hear from Ron about whether or not he thinks the video sounds anything like what he heard.

I assumed we already did with his comment: It should not be listened to as any accurate representation of the in-the-room sound I heard. Since the video was posted despite that injunction, we can only speculate why the post was made.

I think Carlos would just build an addition and buy the M9s unheard to add to his collection of superlative audio exotica.

Why would he if he can "judge" them from video for free? ;)

He'll probably listen to them at home and if he doesn't like them put them on the curb for Goodwill.

Hi Carl, I’m sorry to disappoint you but I have absolutely no interest in the M9, or any other commercial offering.

I think that I have achieved and getting what I want with my WAAR reference system, with the system-remastering process implemented. My experience with developing and implementing the system-remastering process and my OKTAN6 ultimate horn system has demonstrated to me that I can tune a system to sound exactly like I want it to sound through various methods. At this point in my audio journey I fully understand the elements at play and how to make the appropriate adjustments to achieve any desired outcome.

My audio explorations are not done, my interests these days are mostly DIY Audio Community related: field-coil compression drivers, full-range drivers, open-baffle, SET and other low power tube amps, DHT preamplifiers, and other non-mainstream designs and topologies.

I left the herd a long time ago and have no interest in following the crowd or the traditional approach, even more so now that I have put together multiple systems that sound substantially better, to me, than anything that I have heard, in person (for Al) or over videos. I still keep an open mind and hope that someone with one of the “über” systems will surprise me and impress or blow me away so that I can get a new inspiration. I’m still waiting and hoping that day comes….but nothing so far…..just a bunch of flowery words and shocking price tags but so far all have failed to deliver on the only thing that matters, the resultant sound.

These do seem to be the nesting places of the audio journey destination for many.
