Wadax Server PSU unit has now arrived

after 4 days back with my standard DC cables, I am fully appreciating again what adding the power supply did! it's nothing I take for granted and Level 3 Wadax is awesome sounding.

but......no doubt.....i miss Level 4 and those Akasa DC cables. can't un-hear it. my dreams are now red tinged.;)

My own Level 4 has landed. Installed the 3 (red cables below) Akasa DC cables a couple hours ago. They are directional looking at the cable woven jackets (bottom pic). Now a couple hours in, my stressful anticipation is justified, and my previous thoughts/perceptions (posts #147 & 156) on these are again realized. Played some ‘go-to’s’ and am immersed in my happy place.

these are new cables, so break-in is always something to think about. OTOH they are not signal cables, or AC power cables with plugs and IEC connections. they are DC cables with exotic proprietary interfaces. so i have no idea how time might change things, or just settling. but i seem to be hearing all i heard from those demo cables. i'll report it if i hear any change that is noticeable.

The Akasa dc cables will sound better after say 100-200 hours of playing in. They did in my LA system so they will get better in your set up as well.

Very nice Mike. I am sure it sounds wonderful. I am constantly amazed at how far we can push sound quality. Look at how well engineered Wadax is. Then add a simple DC cable and SQ improves. Add a better switch and SQ improves again. and on and on it goes. Makes me wonder how far from the top we really are.

You are completely right. And please do not forget top notch grounding: in my system the positive effects of grounding with Tripoint Audio’s top of the line grounding cables and ‘grounding’ stations on the Wadax gear (with its dedicated grounding binding posts on all major Wadax pieces, including all PSU’s) are hard to believe.

Sometimes it is hard to wrap ones head around what makes a difference and how much of a difference it makes. The Akasa reference DC cable is anything but "simple" and to me it was hard to understand why this should make a difference at all. I did speak at length to the Wadax crew to get an explanation and they had one even if it zoomed over my head. In some cases there are "changes" and in other cases in audio there are "differences" to me I am only looking for things in my system that truly take me closer to my music. I know most will doubt this and write ot off however these cables made a very audible change to a set of products that were already at the cutting edge of what seemed possible.
THis IMO is not a 'tweek" but rather something very new or at least very new to me and it does advance the Wadax product and their "art."

it's not like you can insert the Akasa cables into other products and expect a particular result. or add the Server Power Supply and have it give you the same jump. i see the Wadax approach as consistent with my philosophy of having gear that is not limiting. they have a design approach where it can get the full benefit from these additions. the basic design has headroom for improvement.

i know you have added the Wadax Reference server, so you see this too.

my perspective is that the basic Wadax does not have constricting 'weak links' holding back higher performance. it's ready to rock!!!! it's shown to be worthy of my commitment to it.

not going there. i see that differently. give me a month or two and i will comment.

thanks Rudolf. yes; IF i do try those Akasa DC cables (dac <-> dac ps) i expect they will bring more degrees of this big step. from Harley's and Roy's reviews that is how they put it. not sure those are doable for me, but we will see.

adding the Wadax Ref Server Power Supply is called 'Level 3', then those spendy DC cables are then called 'Level 4'.

i'm pretty damn happy with Level 3. and i'm already pinching myself that i got this far.;)
Hi,
I have a question about adding external reference PSU to the Wadax reference server.
there are internal power supply on Reference Server so it’s not so clear from the manual if I need to connect the reference server and reference PSU to the outlet or only the reference PSU that power ON the reference server.
please send a clear instructions

Once you have connected the Wadax reference server and reference PSU to eachother through a dc cable you only need to connect the PSU with a pc to an outlet. The reference server is in this way ‘slaved’ to the PSU. You only need to press the power button of the PSU.

Hi,
Thanks for your quicly response,
I need to disconnect the power cable from the reference server and switch the power ON/OFF button to OFF.
connect the reference PSU to the outlet and DC Akassa cable to the reference server?
Also, I need to configure somthing else?
I saw in the PSU screen IN and OUT and two options Set to 0 and Set to 180

Indeed. Switch off the server. Remove pc from the server and insert the pc in the PSU. Connect the PSU and the server via a dc cable. Switch (only) on the PSU and it should work automatically from there.

I will try it tonight.
what about the settings - what is the difference between the set to O and set to 180 options?

I am not familiar with the two settings you are referring to. So I need to look into this. After the procedure I described in my previous reply my server started playing, I was very happy with the sound and never looked back … :)

Works perfectly
but still there are two options on the screen, the default setting is set to 0 and you can switch to Set to 180, there is no documentation.
very strange for unit with this price tag.

good morning orenatt, congrats on your Wadax and your new Reference Power Supply!

there is no right or wrong to the phase position. each system is different as to which position sounds better. it's mostly a matter of what you hear as far as soundstage and dynamics. especially precision and solidity in the soundstage. try both ways and pick one. phase is a subtle issue. if you can't hear a difference then just do the default setting and return to the question at a latter time.

in my case in my system to my ears i like it in the default '0' position, not the '180' position.

agree on the lack of documentation.

down the road if you make changes, or just to check, from time to time, try switching this and check if you still agree on the setting. as your system evolves things can change.

Hi Orenatt -
thanks for sharing here and talking about your experience. If you would please send me a DM with your email address, I will send you a copy of the user manual.

over the last day i've noticed an up-tic in sound quality. today was day 6 for the 3 Akasa DC cables, so about 140-150 hours in. a degree more energy projection, a touch more see into transparency, a touch more scale and ease. less reproduced, more musical engagement. quite small but moves the enjoyment needle. i suppose a combination of further settling, and actual cable break-in. nice.

and maybe we are not done.

i have to say after a week i'm further into 'pinch-me' territory.

Glad to hear this. Btw, I experienced more fluidity as well. Hopefully you do as well.

Please allow me to remark the following: the quality of digital replay with the three Wadax reference units and Akasa interlink as well as Akasa dc cables was raised profoundly in my Tidal La Assoluta system by doing the following:
- Adding two slabs of high purity copper as platforms for the Wadax reference server, dac, PSU as well as for the two PSU ‘s of the reference dac
- Using one or two slabs of high purity copper for mass loading the Wadax reference server, dac, PSU as well as the two PSU’s of the reference dac.
- Grounding the various Wadax reference components and copper platforms with Tripoint Audio grounding cables and ‘grounding’ stations.
These three steps made huge differences for the better in all sonic parameters. If I would single out only two of them: clearly more density and less mechanicalness.

For a more detailed description I refer to the Tidal La Assoluta thread on this forum.

Hello,

Everything works perfect for two days but today I saw that the reference PSU is powered ON and The Reference Server is powered Down.
I try to restart everything and re-connecting the DC cable again but still not working !
In order to check what is the problem I try connect the Server with the internal power supply and the server is powered ON so the problem is looks like a problem with the Reference PSU or with the Akassa DC cable.
the PSU is Powered ON but will not power the Server.
Also, I sent email to Wadax

Please try to help ne ASAP !
Oren

do you see a lighted screen on the PSU?
