The Saab 900 had unusally comfortable driving ergonomics, more than enough poke.
Best car for lang hauls I ever drove was a 1989 Nissan Laurel 2.8DLX With 4 speed automatic.
It was a smooth but somewhat wallowy ride but you would get out after hours and hours of driving feeling just as well as at the start.
But... thinking more practically about the posters needs, I would suggest a Mercedes G350 (w463) Gelendewagen (1990 -95 ish model) . The 3.5 Turbodiesel with 136bhp.
I logged many trips in one of those back a number of moons.
Tight ride. They are old now, but still amazing long haul cruisers.
Good units hover around 60k. that seems to be about where the good ones are now. But... people never sell them, so good luck finding a perfect specimen for sale.
Its also a german panzer tank… Solid stuff…

THe best riding highway vehicle I have ever owned is the Macan S I just gave back after the lease was done. I made quite a few trips of over 7 hours and it is extremely comfortable, quiet and handles great. I would have gotten a second one if the prices havent gone so sky high. I paid under 72 in 2021 and its over 90k now.

There are really good hybrid variants now. The suspension and overall driver feel is perfectly balanced between comfort and responsiveness. The only SUV that I can truly say feels just like a sports sedan. Problem is, I got the gas burning-est one of them all. Oh well, forgive me this will definitely be my last ICE purchase. I am a true believer that at least where I live, Hybrid is the best solution and that it will be that way for a long time.
Yes, that is fun...it has a bit too much lag though. The Porsche Panamera had a 4.0 V8 diesel that was a real monster.
I suggest a RAM 1500, loaded like in a “Limited” trim. When introduced in 2019, the new RAM was luxury CAR of the year. Amazing comfort, all the bells and whistles and safety features. Can get a 33 gal fuel tank so range is near 600 miles between fill ups (recharge with gasoline takes about 10 minutes

Rear seat legroom more than Mercedes S class, reclining rear seats, heated and cooled. Put a canopy or bed cover on it you have huge trunk — a place for the dog crates and all the luggage. Air shocks provide height adjustment so if you park in a garage you can shrink the truck down low enough to get into any.
Disadvantage — its a pickup so doesn’t sneak into tiny little parking spaces. Advantage — its a truck! A man should have a truck… you know, to do truck stuff!

it was supposed to have e a super cruise for high ways but no chips
I do 500 miles every 2 months to nyc from NC
for me a few things are a must
one is silence in the car love dead Silence
next is bad weather driving
No wide tires or low profile
next is auto driving features
don’t Want lane control this sounds good but then I’m fighting on turns
do love cruise control stops and starts
a rear view Digital rear view mirror wonder full for night and bad weather
next heads up display
all wheel drive in sport mode is good enough for me
last Cadillac was a black Wing ct4 not 5 much better handling but way too noisy in the car

Unfortunately never available in USA. Since new my 2015 Cayenne Diesel has been among the best long range cruisers I've owned (the other was a 2008 MB GL320 diesel but that was not as service free as the Cayenne). 30+ mpg, tows 7800#, and has been supremely reliable. 115,000 miles and counting (45,000 miles of that was pulling a 5300# trailer).
Big surprise. Who (business Traveller) wants to fly into an unknown city, drive outside the city to a new customer/supplier/whatever and have to worry about finding a charging station in an unknown state? Rent a car at Kennedy airport and never leave the city for two days, no problem. Fly into Atlanta and have to drive to the middle of GA, no way.
The good thing is you don’t have to worry. Tesla will tell you exactly where the charger is, how to get to it, when to charge, and how long to charge for. It’ll also reroute you to another charger ahead of time if the first one is too busy. About as easy and care free as it gets.
