Natural Sound

Well, it seems you weren't aware how provocative the current title would be when you chose it.
You seem way more sensitive than the speakers you like - it's a start.

Funny, I was by far not the first one raising objections to the thread title back in 2021. Several others did before me. But maybe they are more sensitive than their speakers too ;).

I am not discussing the provocativeness of the content and discussions that happened, but to keep on because of the thread title 3 years later...

i do agree that owners of inefficient speakers are more sensitive, because they have to spend a lot of time defending; selling those speakers and electronics off is too much of a loss to take plus packing them is a nightmare.

Peter's reaction to Ralph spurred this current episode. looking for the higher road. dismissing Ralph's intensions. which is fine and good but some did not agree with him that he was in such a position to claim that.

matters of opinion. so we threw that around for a few posts. he claims not to care about the views on the name and related issues, but he cared about how it causes his thread to be viewed.

I’ve been a drummer for north of 20 years. If a snare drum is reproduced accurately it sounds natural to a drummer. It’s that simple.

I don’t care about the views on the name. Tell me what are the related issues and I will tell you if I care about those.

I am not debating that point Mike. I was just riddling Al he also hasn't been letting go on small pieces and sometimes this thread keeps going through the same loop for three years

I guess the hang out choice is between Audio Coffee and Natural Sound.

Dear Peter
I think I know what it (Natural sound) means but trying to describe “natural sound” for all audiophiles is not easy.

My experience about more natural sound is :
- accurate phase 20-20khz (no overshoot or distortion in time domain)
Like NOS dacs, 6db crossover, …
- natural tone (even at higher distortion)
Like Copper cables, good SET amplifiers, paper drivers …
- more dynamic/live (both macro and micro dynamics) with less compress/damp sound
Like good Horns …

Hello Amir. I like it. I made a list of qualities that I heard in natural sounding systems but never attempted to identify the causes.

Yet every system you listen to that snare drum on is going to sound a little different...and none of them are really going to sound like the real thing!

Yes, and another reason that “accurate” does not quite work as a descriptor, but as long as some of those systems make the drum sound convincing or believable or realistic, the word “natural” works just fine.

Of course. We are talking degrees of realism. Relative terms. In absolute terms no hi fi system will ever sound like my drum set to me. I thought that was a given.

I put in bold the key adjectives here.

If it were a given for everyone this discussion would not have started...

You make these claims @Mike Lavigne . Are you willing to support them? What is the bear?
i think you and your mentor get a little kick out getting under the skin of members who don't like the way you use your system name. not a big deal, but a deal. .....'poking the bear'. get a reaction. and draw attention.

seriously? poking the bear is always fun. and this was very much that.

Thanks Mike. To be fair, your claim was that poking the bear was very much a part of this whole thread, implying it was my intent. You sounded certain. Well, it is really just your opinion. I assure you it is not my intent to get under the skin of some members.
