“Examining the Criticism: Is Synergistic Research Unfairly Singled Out in the High-End Audio Industry?”

Shall I post an AI search result?
Perplexity Pro AI:

Synergistic Research remains one of the most controversial companies in the high-end audio cable and accessory market, attracting significantly more criticism and skepticism than many of its competitors.

Controversial Claims and Products

Synergistic Research is known for making bold claims about their products’ performance, often using unconventional terminology and concepts that lack scientific backing. Their product lineup includes items like:

• Cables with “air strings” and unique geometries

• “Quantum tunneled” power supplies

• “UEF” (Uniform Energy Field) technology

• Tuning “bullets” for cables

These products and the associated marketing language tend to draw heavy criticism from skeptics who view them as pseudoscientific.

Pricing and Value Perception

Like many high-end cable manufacturers, Synergistic Research’s products are often extremely expensive. For example, their top-of-the-line Galileo cables can cost as much as some people’s entire audio systems. This pricing strategy is common in the high-end audio world but still attracts criticism from those who question the value proposition.

Comparison to Other Companies

While many high-end cable companies face skepticism, Synergistic Research seems to attract an outsized share of controversy.

A few factors contribute to this:

1. Marketing approach: Synergistic Research’s marketing often emphasizes proprietary technologies and concepts that are difficult to verify scientifically.

2. Lack of transparency: Critics often point out that Synergistic Research is reluctant to provide detailed technical explanations or measurements for their products.

Industry Reception

Within the audiophile community, opinions on Synergistic Research are sharply divided. Some reviewers and customers praise their products highly, while others dismiss them as “snake oil”. This polarization is more extreme than for many other cable companies.

In conclusion, while controversy is not uncommon in the high-end audio cable market, Synergistic Research stands out as particularly contentious. The company’s bold claims, unconventional products, high prices, and marketing approach have made it a lightning rod for debate within the audiophile community, attracting more criticism than many of its competitors

Eliott,

I maintain that the vast bulk of criticism levied at Synergistic Research could equally be levied against any High End audio cable or accessory manufacturer. By addressing this in an open forum, in an honest, open debate, I hope to dispel what I see as a blatant double standard. Anyone of course is welcome to substantiate this criticism, but this will serve as an opportunity to put to bed unwarranted attacks once and for all.

Yes this sounds interesting lets start with UEF .
Can we get an explanation on WBF ?? ;)
Yes, we deal with different electromagnetic fields in the system and sound waves in the listening room with a constant thread of technology— UEF. This creates a cohesive nature between seemingly non-related EM fields and sound waves. When you understand that signal propagation is not electrons running down a wire, but electromagnetic fields around the wire and circuit, and when you understand, that overlapping electromagnetic fields affect one another, creating a uniform, electromagnetic bias throughout the system lowers the systems, noise floor, and improves, subjective characteristics like dynamics sound-staging, and increased resolution without fatigue. Additionally, when you integrate the energy in and around your system, with sound waves created by your speakers, this has a dramatic effect based on science, not conjecture.

How do you achieve that then ?
Through shielding / increased distance or something else ?

Still in my opinion a self made controversy. Clicks are always good but there has never been “drama” on WBF about SR until now
Strange lmao
You are an excellent marketer and contrarian

I’m sure you’d like to keep me out of the club. And I’m not creating drama, I’m responding respectfully to unwarranted criticisms, while giving anyone the opportunity to substantiate these criticisms, so that they can be put to bed once and for all. It is high time Synergistic Research no longer be faulted for industry leading innovation, but rather celebrated.

I have no reason at all to exclude you from anything!

While shielding will prevent one electromagnetic field from interacting with another, to a degree, it also interferes with the natural propagation of electromagnetic fields, which sets up a corresponding compression to the sound field. And loss of resolution in frequency response. This is easily heard, through double blind listening tests of a shielded coax, versus an unshielded wire.

The mechanism by which we transcend seemingly non-related fields is proprietary, however, we have developed a resonator that responds to sound waves, electromagnetic waves, and ULF and VLF frequencies. By universally applying UEF Tech— a blanket term for a suite of proprietary technologies, throughout the system and listening room, we integrate every aspect of the system and room acoustics.

However I am reminded of two quotes from the Great Groucho Marx
“I’d never join a club that would have me as a member”
“I think I’ll join a club and beat you over the head with it”
Words to live by lol

audiophiles come in 2 categories;

those who view all cables/tweaks claims/justifications with some degree of skepticism, and those yet unborn.

so it just depends on what level of skepticism any product receives. there is going to be some. plenty of audiophiles enjoy/like/prefer the results of cables and tweaks. which is a different thing than the 'why' it happens. or whether it's merely a difference or valued change?

the more deep and involved the explanations, the greater the skepticism. ideally the designers just say listen and decide. who knows why?

Mike sometimes the why truly sounds like BS haha

Hence the problem with Hi-End Audio…..overthinking!

Ted,

in all seriousness, one reason i have a negative disposition toward your products is that for a number of years you showed at audio shows with gear i wanted to hear. and your demonstrations got in the way of my interests. so it was annoying. closed doors, scheduled times, all that stuff. not my cup of tea. at a show i want to hear the gear 'naked'.

nothing personal, but i just got an attitude about it and decided to just ignore your products. just too 'in your face' an approach for me. i did sit through a couple of your demo's at one time or another so i did realize that your approach did something positive. but beyond that never could get my head around thinking about it.

the Million Dollar System thing you did at CES 2002 (in an off site auditorium down the street from the Alexis Park) was crazy stuff. i do take my hat off to you for showmanship. maybe the most over-the-top single thing ever in high end audio. you set the bar impossibly high. you do have lots of gumption for sure.
