You have to wonder why we all bother posting sometimes.
We should all realise we're talking subjective rubbish that no matter how well we express it, means something different to the writer and reader.
Sure there's some common ground. But it isn't exact enough to hold any true meaning.
Buy what you like and enjoy it
Sorry, but sound propagation of line source (cylindrical), vs. point source (spherical - as most things in nature), are not for subjective interpretation. dr k, who is now calling me foolish
, asked where do we go from here, and my reply is simple; science. You can still like what you like but don't assume you are the only guy who ever been to a concert and that you can rewrite the laws of physics just so that they can meet your preferences.
That's a relief. I thought it might be related to the dreaded 'shimmy shimmy cocoa puff' harmonic, or the 'stripper pole' fifth, seventh and ninth harmonics, produced only by planars and no other transducer. Does this make planars evil and non-musical?
I have an idea, why don't we close this thread and start two new threads or at least one more thread regarding ribbon seakers. After all this was DaveyF's thread and he is no longer here. The title of this thread was divisive from the start. My suggestion is-
Thread #1 All of the Alsyvox and ribbon detractors can start a thread where you can bash away, have fun, enjoy yourselves. It's not a problem that you don't like Alsyvox or ribbon speakers, it's your opinion, express it in any manner that makes you feel good.
I personally could care less with what those that don't like ribbons think about them. It has nothing to do with how I feel about ribbon speakers. I've loved them since the 80's. Along with horns AND Magicos and a bunch of other speakers.
It's so tiring listening to the bashing from people who heard something at a show or haven't actually even heard the speakers in question in a well set up environment. Or even more so, people that haven't even heard them at all.
Thread #2 A thread for those that do like ribbon speakers including Alsyvox. In this thread we can discuss our actual experiences with the speakers ie, electronics, room sizes and positioning in rooms, +'s and -'s but in a positive, informative and interesting type of exchange.
Or maybe it's best to start a thread for the #2 suggested thread and the bashers can just stay here and enjoy themselves without interfering with a positive, communicative environment, which would really be great for those that want to post in a positive manner.
I'm not telling anyone what to do, far be it for me to do that. I am just making a suggestion for others to contemplate.

Here is my very first post as a new member of WBF. Pretty much sums up how I feel today also. I could care less what moves oneself just know how I feel about listening to music and have had plenty of time and different speakers to confirm my own thoughts. I also attend many live events. Audio has plenty of players so just remember this is just a forum for thought and means nothing more than that. No one is really here to persuade any of you to change what you like. Time goes fast in this world so go spend your money on your enjoyment piece and ignore those opinions you disagree with. Enjoy those things that make YOU happy.
YOU ribbons fanboys think you have it hard? Try plowing the lonely Zu furrow on here as I've done for 6 long years. I have my long service stripes to show for all that.
IMHO separate threads like #1 or #2 are not the idea behind the WBF creation and would be detrimental to the forum. WBF is an open space of discussion but has rules and moderators - they can close a thread anytime.
It is known from the past that provocative tittles or starting posts can poison threads forever. IMHO just closing this thread and starting a new one about Alsyvox will solve the now unsolvable bashing problem.
I agree or without even closing this thread, although I think it should be closed, someone can start a new Alsyvox thread for those that want to participate.
That is so very true Micro, the spirit a thread is initiated in often fairly much seals it’s fate.
Some posters seem forever drawn to initiate sensational ideas as they often draw plenty of interest... but what so often starts out in the light and in laughter also often ends up engulfed in the flaming rage of tears. Polarising thought = attached disturbing outcome.
