My definition of analog warmth is a tube amp and preamp in the winter time. This is great in the winter but not so much in the summer. Who else loves tubes in their audio chain but cannot stand the heat.

I think I'll stay off this thread. My fireplace is warm enough for me :)

had a big krell amp that could make the front room into a steam room if you pissed on it. instant evaporation lol

Which Krell did you have Spaz? I saw the KMA-400 monos once and they were crazy hot.

Perhaps if you are addressing thermodynamics, not sound quality. :D

I have long experience with Atmasphere OTLs (Ma50,Ma60, Ma2) and I can assure you they do not sound "warm", unless they are fed by a "warm" source. They have great purity of sound, impressive dynamics and detail. And yes they can sound very natural.

And, although I was never in their presence, I am sure that the Ma3's are not warm, they should be HOT!

Thermodynamics> Duh. Does that mean when things get hot? yes I agree the Atma-sohere was unexpectanly neutral.

Could not agree more!
Had Krells, Spectrals, MLs, ARs, Jadis, etc. The only ones I stuck with are Ralph's MA2s.

I heard them and they were definitely warm, but it probably matters to what speaker they are connected. I have not seen the output impedance listed for the MA2 or MA3. I suspect it might be rather high from the results I heard.

It's available on the website.

I was looking on the specs for the MA3 which doesn't list it.

I do see now that it is 1.75 ohms for the MA2 and 2.3 ohms for the MA1. So one might expect the MA3 would be an ohm or a bit above. About what I expected from the way it sounded.

Sometimes I run the air conditioning for a while to cool the place off before I turn on the VTL MB-750s (12 6550s per side).

One nice thing about the MB-750s was that they released less than half of the heat of the Atmasphere MA-2s or the Audio Research REF750's!

Not just tubes - class A ss amps are just as bad, maybe worse!

My Pass Aleph 2 monos kick out a terrific amount of heat. As you say, great in winter, but in summer I have to alternate with the AC unit - it's too noisy to have it on while music is playing, so it's an hour of listening followed by an hour of AC. :D

I rarely play my system during the summer months based on the exact situation you described above, I go fishing instead.

Knew someone with these and I will confirm that they will throw out the heat as well as sounding warm. Fortunately for me I didn't care for the sound.

I'm calling you out on this one. I really doubt your heard these amps. If you did, name the person.

We've not run into a speaker these amps won't play. You'd better fess up on this one as at this point I am of the opinion you are trolling. So name the owner of the amps. You can PM me if you like.
