Burmester 911 mk3

Joe,

No problem. Send them to me for some long and exhaustive tests and I will provide you with the definitive answer. ;) And perhaps the Aida's will love them!

As I have little hope that you are interested in this option, I can supply a simple receipt.
Play them using the GAT. Using a voltmeter in AC connect one probe to any ground in the system - even the outer part of a RCA plug of the GAT will do. Now while playing measure the voltage of the negative speaker connector and then that of the positive. They should be changing with the music. If one of them is zero or around zero you are using only half of the amplifier. If both change, no problem, it is working properly!

Good answer!

Joe, seriously, since you prefer the GAT with the Dartzeels and the 077 with the 911, stick with that.

Dartzeel seem to work better with single-ended, and Burmester works better with balanced anyway...... the only way to truly test independent of single-ended or balanced is with an Interocitor. However, then there will be people who will complain about the Interocitor not being transparent.

Thank you Gary. That is what I have decided to do at this point. The 077 with the 911 monos in an undeniably spectacular combination. I am happy. Very happy.

Hi

Once you get to the level of 077 plus mono 911, it is time to get a better room and just enjoy the heck out of these superlative, authoritative and for me definitive electronics .. Burmester Electronics.

Not a problem for you unless internally the Colosseum is a bridged amplifier.... I don't see anything in anything I can find that says one way or the other. If it is a standard differential input, the amplifier just amplifies the difference between pins 2 and 3. With a bridged amplifier, and you short pin 2 (or 3) to ground, then half of the amplifier is unused.

Thanks Gary...pretty sure it is not bridged. They make a big deal of this with Mephitso as part of the Gryphon design philosophy. Gryphon knew what i would be doing in my system when they checked over the unit for me (bought it second hand), so seems i should be ok.

Frantz,

Long ago you started a thread about the Devialet amplifier. Did you manage to listen to it? I would love to listen from someone who was experience with Burmester and Devialet.

Joe.......I agree with Gary's comment. The synergy between the 007 and the 911 Mk3's cannot be denied. I would be taking full advantage of that combination. A mix and match with this level of ultra premium gear is not the way to go, in my opinion.

Thanks Dan,

You are 100% correct. I was playing the 077/911's last night. Laying there in bed (my sweet spot) and thinking OMG! This sounds amazing. Wide and deep soundstage, very natural sound. Extremely quiet background. Specific voice and instrument placement. Speakers just disappear. A little better source (cd/sacd/dac or music server) would round out and excellent system. I am happy and the amps are not even broken in yet. There's more good times ahead. I take your advice to heart. Thank you!

Joe.......You think you're in heaven now, just wait until you finally connect that Burmester 111 Musiccenter to your system.

That looks sweet for sure. I can't wait until we get some user reviews out in the wild.

Joe,
What is the source you are currently using with the 077/911?

I have a Metric Halo LIO-8 dac, Marantz SA-15S2B Limited cd/sacd
player, Sony XA-5400ES, Audio Logic 24MXL tube DAC, W4S modified
Sonos.

The Mertic Halo and Marantz cd player are my primary sources.

Joe, not to be detractive to Burmester (which is a brand I really like), but I think that the user reviews about the 111 server will be by Burmester fans, so, probably not truly objective. Imagine how it is for a McIntosh fan reviewing a new McIntosh creature, I mean... ;)

Said that, it's gonna probably be an excellent product, but, IMHO, not the best investment in terms of long term flexibility. Don't forget it's a closed system.
Then, c'mon, you already have their reference preamp! Can it be bettered by the 111 preamp section?!
Get a reference level DAC or disc player with digital inputs, sell the compents that you're not going to use and just enjoy the music :)

Thanks docvale,

I've though about that privately. I need objective reports which will be hard to come by. I keep coming back to a Playback Designs MPS-5 in my mind as well as one or two more players. Your thoughts?

Eheheehehehe :) my thoughts?
I've done random listening to several top level Dac/ players, but I've always listened to Burmester with Burmester sources. So, I cannot say a word in terms of synergy.
Anyway, the MPS-5 is amazing (listened with VAC and Verity Audio), as well as the various MSB, Weiss, dCS or Emm Labs. I wouldn't know which one to pick, unless I had to choose based on the budget.
I can only add that my best listening session with your speakers occurred with the DAC/pre and power amps from TAD itself. But you already own SoTA amplification, so... :)

I've been thinking about an AMR CD-77.1 or DP-777 as well. Anyone with experience with AMR. They look like nice tube cd players and dacs. They always get great write-ups.

Never got to audition the DeVialet will be going to France soon so will take the opportunity. I like the concept a lot ...
