CES 2011: The Good, the Bad and the Ugly

This is what I mean by mod: http://www.tapeproject.com/machines/machines.htm

As far as I know, other than custom paint jobs and so, J-corder mods do not go into the above changes. But Ki and others that are more of an expert can advise.

The J-corder machines are more than just another pretty face :)

I have a J-corder deck that was also modded by Dan Schmalle. Basically for mine that is a fancy deck, Jeff takes the deck apart, cleans it, lubricates parts, checks everything (including the heads and has them relapped or replaced if needed) is within tolerance and spec. He also now rebuilds the record section on the machines giving it if I remember correctly, an extra 10 dB of heardroom while recording.

I don't want to disparage Rob Harley, who I know has earned the respect of many if not all of us. But wouldn't you love to see some of the "heavy weights" go into a demo blindfolded and then tell us what they heard without knowing the price of what they heard?

That would be fascinating, indeed, Marty
