Actually very few diseases are as contagious as the common cold or influenza, and MRSA colonization of the general population in the US is quite high (~20%); nevertheless, very few otherwise healthy people die from those conditions (just as with CoVid19). I am not the ignorant one here.
Don't misunderstand, this is definitely a serious situation, but it doesn't appear to be another SARS or Ebola, probably not even as bad as a serious influenza epidemic, and we definitely need more information. But the panic that has ensued is way disproportionate to the actual health threat.

Many factors make this virus pernicous is its ability is to be transported through air by an asymptomatic carrier.

Problem with these pepetuated stats is they are often completely wrong. I worked on H5N1 avian flu for more than a decade just so you know where I am coming from. I am under no illusion though, that Covid-19 will have a serious effect. My kids have not been to school since January...
Reports here in the UK are that the situation in Seattle is not looking good and that more gernerally in the USA the shortage of testing kits is causing real problems.
Here in the UK deaths now 3 and no. of cases up by another 47 to 275.
Good support for the Govt at the moment but I would be surprised if the US Govt doeas not come under increasing criticism unless they do more.

Hundred years ago (Spanish flu), nobody knows exactly how many died...20, 50, 100 million.
Fast forward today, nobody knows exactly how many are infected right now and how many will die.
All that we know is that the world health scientists are not taking this lightly, and neither the world markets, the oil industry, the aviation industry, the cruise ship industry, ...the industrial world.
Numbers are tough to evaluate when a virus doesn't always show symptoms, people cannot be tested, when we are passed the containment phase, when we are in uncharted territory.
So I agree 100% with you that those stats are wrong, far from being accurate...the number of people being infected worldwide and each individual country. They are probably higher than lower; not lower...impossible.
We do what we can, we wash our hands.
