Its not about playing loud or louder there is always one optimum db playback level with recordings for realism ..!
As I said, I don't care about playing realistic (loud) levels, so whatever you think of THD and loudness relationship is great but irrelevant for me.Its not about playing loud or louder there is always one optimum db playback level with recordings for realism ..!
Have to disagree , proper stereo is vastly superior , not gimmicky stereo but a properly done stereo recording captures it all over mono.
Stereo reproduction has less distortion more dynamics (2 speakers deliver 50% less thd at same spl) Double the power no mono is gonna get as close to realism.
Like many things in Audio there are gonna be situations where a mono setup could better a stereo deal but not often ..!
BTW using 2 channels to reproduce a mono signal is not true mono , well not historically accurate and in such a situation mono could run a closer game …
Hello,Hi,
I wonder if you are listening to mono records on a regular basis, with a dedicated mono cartridge, with correct equalisation and so on.

Absolutely listen to mono vinyl on a custom Garrard 301 with an SME 312S with the magnificent nonpareil Miyajima Zero Infinity cartridge. On many mono vinyl records it blows away every other source in my house including 5-6 rather pricey solid state and tubed DACs. Once you’ve heard John Coltrane in true mono on vinyl, there’s no going back to boring stereo on vinyl. The sheer tactile physical sensation of mono records is just not present on stereo vinyl.Hi,

Hello ,
You are missing the point , it matters not the levels you listen 40/50/60/70 db the advantages are still the same..!
I do enjoy it for what it is, and never said that it "beats stereo"...Enjoy mono for what it is , i cant agree it beats stereo ..!

I was responding to a statement made about mono vs Stereo….Your personal preference for stereo reproduction is not the subject of this thread tho is it ?
