Free Korg Audiogate DSD

Audiogate: DSD > analog ?

Does Audiogate decode DSD directly into analog, or is it a format conversion tool that changes DSD into PCM first, then analog? If #2, what resolution is the PCM stage?

Summarizing, does Audiogate function as well as a standalone DAC like the Playback Designs MPS3? The question comes from another forum, where a poster said that no special DAC is needed for DSD, Audiogate would do. If it's just downconverting the files, so that you can "play" them, it can't offer the same sound quality as a dedicated DAC.......

This is strictly software converson/playback software. "I believe" when you play DSD files through the ASIO driver in AudioGate, you are spitting out PCM data. Yes, you will need an external DAC.
