Golden Gate DAC arrives.

Bill are you playing BHE native feed or upsampling first to DSD256?

If not the latter, try it with the tips and settings I sent to you…In Core Mode, if possible.

I am just playing Bughead native feed at the moment. Will try the jriver integration mode later - I don't have a copy of jriver on this particular PC so will need to download.

Just so I understand - I am essentially using jriver interface for browsing and music selection and using the dsd upsampling algorithm to feed the output into Bughead for further processing and interface with my DAC?

Yes….correct and if you do all that in core mode its ultimate magic.

On another note, just in case you or other people know MusikMike of Stereomojo fame and AudioAsylum, I JUST heard he passed away from illness last June (29). Top class person who I will miss tremendously.

Is this core mode in jriver?

Audiophile optimiser

Okay. Not using optimizer - I need this PC for other stuff and even the basic version slowed my machine down horrendously!

you need Windows 2012 RS Standard running in core mode then + Audiophile Optimizer.

Aha. Thanks, Mike. I have not yet sorted a pimped out server - I really need to do that for 2016. My PC is Windows 10 and has to do other stuff so not merely dedicated to audio although it does that 90% of the time.

Audiohile optimizer is a must, that is on the Lampi server, but I suppose it does its magic on 'regular' computers as well. In my LA system the focussing was lacking without it resulting in a somewhat strange musical presentation (as if you were listening to a sort 'bubble sound'). The differences with and without AO are really not subtle.

thanks. I am having fun. these Elrogs seem to really get to the heart of the music. the nuance is addictive.

as Norman mentions, I'm using the Totaldac USB on both my GG and Trinity. maybe at some point i'll play around with others.

Hi Mike,

Great to hear that the Elrog 300B's are working out so well for you on your Lampi GG. They would be my first choice too. Have you ever had the opportunity to compare the Wireworld Platinum Starlight 7 USB Cable to the Totaldac USB Cable? I'm currently getting terrific results with the Wireworld Platinum Starlight 7 USB Cable on my Esoteric K-01X DAC. Amazing transparency with tremendous detail and nuance.

Best,
Ken

With Windows Server 2012, can you still run headless (i.e. can you remote desktop into it)?

How hard is it to setup? I'm thinking of trying it (and purchasing Audio Optimizer) but would like an idea of what I'm getting myself into :)

Thanks in advance...

Yes, you can run headless and remote it. It isn't the easier OS to work with but if you are pretty good with PCs you should be fine "with a little help from your friends."

Win10 AO is in Beta now and should be ready soon.

Do you suggest waiting for that? Is it expected to be as good?

According to AudioPhil at the Computer Audiophile forum - the AudiophileOptimizer man - AO with Win10 it will be almost as good, but not as good as the server in core mode. See

Hi Wisnon,

May I also get any special recipes/tips for running BHE with JRMC 21? I have BHE 5.57 Beta 5 but the JRMC option is greyed out. I've read that BHE and JRiver both blocked each other since they can't play in the same sandbox.

Cheers,
-H

Go back down to version 5.24 or thereabouts…pre- blockade.

PM me your email addy as well.

Thx but your PM quote has been exceeded so I couldn't send you things.

Hi,

Where can one get the older BHE now? His download link is always his latest release. And before that, I only managed to grab v4.70.

So for my understanding, do you recommend upsampling via BHE (or InfinityBlade SQ/TQ?) to JRMC and let the latter play with None for encoding?

Thanks again.

Cheers,
Hedwig Poon
