Golden Gate DAC arrives.

Hi no mundorf are only in the power supply. These are Jupiter caps by passed by Duelunds. Steve, no one has heard or compared alternative caps, but people who mod crossovers and amps, many consider duelunds to be best and their silver cast to be super but expensive. So Bill is toying with that idea

Ked - you also get Mundorf supreme as a bypass cap in the output caps - i.e. Bypassing Jupiter of Audyn.

I haven't come around to testing all my recently aquired tubes due to heavy work load and Euro 2016.

But I took a pic for you, Gentlemen...

Interesting, this tube rolling.

The combination Takatsuki 274b/Elrog 300b sounds really well rounded, almost too rounded. Good to hear on Eric Clapton's guitar on the unplugged album.

I assume that my streamer puts out a kind of rounded sound signature already, the transients sound really soft on this combination.

Changing the Elrog with the Globe Anniversary 45 seems to make a better match in my chain. Transients sound sharp and defined now without turning harsh. Tonal color and sound stage and bass seem on par with both of these combinations.

So I prefer the 45 Globes at the moment. Let's see what other combinations can be a winner.

Are all tubes fully played in yet? Be careful not to judge too early as only fully played in bottles will tell you the whole story. But of course in the end system synergy and personal taste will dictate the ultimate choice.

And I forgot to gratulate you Khonfused with the mighty fine Refine Audio cables you are using. I think they sound magnificient.

And I forgot to mention one other thing: I received yesterday from Rene of Refine Audio (a prototype of) his new usb cable. I am going to try it out with my GG. It needs yet to be played in. Taking the extreme quality of his other cables and pc's into account, my expectations are very high.

Wow you guys are making interesting moves there. Congrats on the tubes and on the cables. Rud, we need to catch up soon.

I heard some noise about the VERY expensive Verictum power cables.

Sorry I could not call before...work was tough this week.

May I suggest the Psvne replica 101d with the Takat recti?

BTW, I thought you were in Koln, but now I see you are in Freistag Bayern!

Many items in the chain can cause rounding , some love this as its relaxing . like pcm to dsd , latter being less rounded . witch globe are you referring too. solid or mesh ?
300 be tubes round and even bloat the bass a bit , but on some systems its what,s needed . the 101 d are the extreme in details and I feel the most linear too . while recti affects the sound for me its mostly about seating at a venue or recoding perspective . while my speakers do yield change in tubes its more time consuming where headphones its more in your face

Depends on what is considered to be "fully played in". All tubes are pre-loved, they are not new. The exact playing time though can only be estimated. The Elrog for example were bought in Dec. 2015 and have been used in a GG, as they were considered to be the best match with the Taka rectifier by the previous owner.
As far as I gathered the previous owner did not have too much time for listening. So how many hours there are on these tubes is anyone's guess.

Thanks and yes refine cables are 'da bomb' :)

My speakers, although being studio speakers are not overly pronounced in the higher frequencies, meaning they are very well balanced throughout the frequency range and do not need to be rounded off by any other electronic in the system to compensate for sharpness, edginess or over exposed details.
Tidals on the contrary have a stronger emphasis on higher frequencies (I am familiar with the Contriva, Piano and Sun ray models) so I would not be surprised if the Elrogs 300b fit just perfectly.
System synergy is king.

Synergy is king.
The eml 274 b mesh is a good recti as well the 5U4 not as good for me. Now what I do think is you play and move them around as its your brain that must be happy. As for Elrogs be nice them. Tube rolling is a nice feature of the lampi. Buy a pair of 6A3 as well. They are not expensive and have a place in rolling. Some music really shines With them and needs them to sound better. It's not genre it's more about quality of the music.

If your Dac output is less tan 700mV, I urge you to try the Kron KR242. Its a 101d on steroids...Dynamic as hell. Gain off the chain.
