Groove Life - RANT!

While the M-60 is our most popular amp (most are sold in the US) our most popular product in terms of units sold is our MP-1 preamp. It outsells the less expensive MP-3 (which is based on the same circuit) by a factor of 5:1. The MP-1 is about $16,000 base price while the MP-3 is $5600. Yes, you get bigger power supplies with better regulation and the unit sounds better. So for the increased price you do get something and you can hear the difference right away; so we are feeding that notion that you do get something if you spend more.... But I don't doubt that part of the reason it sells is simply the price.

We just introduced the UV-1 preamp which is a big departure for us. Its inexpensive (under $3000 with LOMC ability) and takes on much more expensive preamps easily and has been selling well. So price consciousness works too. Economics has got to be one of the weirder endeavours...

Alex, see Joe's post above.

Oh, don't get me wrong, I've heard the stories. But again, to me, they're just that, stories...

Interesting, Gary. Why do you think that is?

I don't know.... the only people who buy my small speakers already have my big ones and want a pair of monitor-sized speakers for their office/den/kitchen.

And those "little" ones sound mighty good. I'm sure you remember me listening to them at Taves, along with the G5s, and commenting about their balance and cohesion across the bandwidth.

Yes, I remember you at TAVES. This is why I use the G7-series at home. In a small room, their balance and cohesion is fabulous. Andre Marc wrote a review of the second-to-smallest and I recall that he liked them..... they just don't sell. They are too cheap for some and too expensive for others.
