Bonzo....That was a great article on the Universum's. THX for sharing. The Trios are out of my price range and in the USA the Duos cost $45K. Even that is expensive compared to the Universum's.

During Polish AVS in Warsaw Lukasz Lewandowski uses the amplification from MySound - The Cube but last year introducing Symphony he made the presentation together with Janusz Sikora who presented his turntable with kevlar arm , the amplifiers were old Burdjak - Sikora amps. I tried MySound amps at home this year, they are quite good with Duo Mezzo XD but prefer my SET Ayon Crossfire III.
I also tried the amps from MySound in my second system with JM Lab PS 5.1 and it was amazing synergy.
Will get monos from MySound one day

Ked, did you have the opportunity to listen to well tuned Duo Mezzo XD with a good SET amp ?

Nope. I was talking of duos and duo mezzo, not XD. The mids and details and flow is much more with the uni, highs are as good as any I have heard, soundstage is like stats (with more bass and oomph than stats). I do not like ANY avant-garde on tone. Where I like trios is the bass horns and dynamics, staging, speed, ease, power, etc. The mids and highs are then acceptable but not great. I am open to listening to XD though I don't see how they can get past that. The digital correction will at best improve the bass integration which was a weak point of the duo non XD

I thought the same way before I get Mezzo XD. The articulation , control and volume of the bass influence the reception of the whole band, especially the mids .
Put well tuned Mezzo XD, preferably with SET amp on your blog agenda pls , " Zero Distortion ...." , I like it very much.
You may try to listen to best setup of Mezzo XD at Mike's , the owner of Audioshark and as you know my invitation is still open

Yes I have not done much hifi for the last 4 months. There was a cricket World Cup for two months, and now some work so it will be a down year for hifi

Almost consistently, those who prefer duos seem to be less classical and more amplified, so possibly the bass section in that case mist be a strength

I listened to Duo Mezzos XD, driven bei Octave and was not impressed at all.
I do blame (to some extent) the Octave as well.
By far not as bad as the dreaded Avantgarde's own SS amplification but probably not optimal as well...

It was the plan to audition Unis at home together with MySound amplification , compare it to my setup and Ked was supposed to make the review of such a comparison.
Unfortunetaly Lublin is around 600 kms from my place ( MySound only one hour drive) and we couldn't find availibility for all of us.

So the only impressions of Unis I have are from AVS in Warsaw and Munich.
They are no 1 on my short list but I hate changes

I am sure your setup with Lampis and Unis sounds fantastic, as for the look of the gear and the view on mountains behind they are both exceptional, you know it better than me

At my brothers home I did a set up with the hORNS Opera 15', using the same Beryllium chassis, as used in the Universum III. The Opera is much easier to integrate in a room, as the bass is driving to the front as well.
The Design is more like classical Focal (I prefer the Universum design), but in many rooms the 15' Beryllium Opera might be a good alternative.

As amplifer (after having tried some) finally the My Sound amps (incl. Preamp/DAC) were bought.

Lukas used the My Sound amps to develop and to voice the speakers, so this amps just fit.
I am sure, there will be better amps available , but mostly for a higher price .

It was 2014 if I am not mistaken.
