How do you know when you are done?

I have 3 Eleiko bars in my home gym, 20kg Olympic Competition bar, 20kg Olympic Training bar and a 20kg Power lifting bar, I wasn't aware Eleiko manufactured a 25kg barbell.

I do have a 25kg Rogue Ohio Squat bar, but with a shaft diameter of 32mm I find it too unwieldy for any lift other than Squat.

Nice - what rack/cage do you have. Any other bars?

Johan is a retired pro bodybuilder. The testosterone got to him and he has forgotten about weights, started buying high end audio instead. He is now putting the power where it is not required, his low efficiency system.

When I was 62, I asked my main financial advisor (who had just told me that I could easily retire comfortably at any time) “When do you think I should retire?” He said “You’ll know.” He was right. I knew when it was time to be “done” with the work aspect of my life. I think this is similar. When you’re done, you will know.
Not the same analogy. You probably had a better handle on your work and your work-life balance and on your savings than you or many on this forum might do about music and sound and/or the ability to reproduce it. It is accepting what one understands or doesn't, rather than thinking because they have spent a lot of money and time they do.

I was talking about a weight plate… I could have said 2,5kg but a choose 25kg. It was not referring to the lifting bars which ofcourse normally is 20kg. Eleiko, started in 1927, is a private owned company from Halmstad, Sweden.
My birth place and where I grew up.

Okay, when Eleiko is mentioned barbells always come to mind, of course they also manufacture plates, these days I tend to leave the 50kg and 25 kg plates on my plate loaded machines, at 63 years old the 20kg plates are just easier to move and place on the bar, particularly when the bar is on the floor. :)

I have a Legend Performance 6 post cage with matching bench. Bars?, where to start, I'm not entirely sure how many barbells are hanging around, on my barbell rack I currently have the 3 Eleiko bars, a Werksan competition bar, Watson Gym 29mm power bar, along with the Rogue Squat bar I have a 29mm Rogue Ohio power bar and a couple of vintage York Barbels from the 60's and 70's.

Machines are mostly Panatta, with a mixture of Cybex, Watson Gym and a Hammer Strength leg press.

All of the equipment in my gym cost less than my amp and speakers, I'm definitely done with gym equipment, I suspect my Audio set up may be quite another matter. ;)

Well, I do understand that you don’t understand. You will never be done for reasons that many familiar with your mindset (as you reveal it by posting) will understand.

Need to visit you to try all that. How do you like the Watson bar, I felt it in their showroom, seemed good, but they said they don't make the bar commercially anymore. Their 6 post watson cage looks great with the stainless steel front 4 posts.

I find the Rogue OPB knurling too aggressive compared to the Eleiko and others.

I agree the Ohio bar is fairly aggressive, my go to bar for general lifting is the Watson bar, I was surprised Watson stopped making it, but the barbell market is pretty competitive and Watson tend to concentrate on the specialist bar/cable attachment sector and I have several of their offerings. The best product Watson produce is their Pro dumbells, I have a half set, 7.5kg to 45kg.

Not too long ago, Mike Lavigne visited me and told me he liked my system and wouldn't change a thing. The end.

Guess I'm done.

I like the looks of the Watson products, especially their animal cage https://watsongym.co.uk/product/animal-cage/ with the stainless steel front posts. Their slim steel plates also look great.

This thread is not audio related. More philosophy and general discourse

We start to gut and frame in about 3 to 4 weeks. It's about to come together. Part of the vineyard may go in this summer. I'm going to let loose maybe 20 pheasant and see what happens. Maybe a few turkeys too. They may end up Coyote food.

I think Mike nailed many of the critical factors in his original post. Our age, financial situation, personal situation, etc. may be the biggest determinants. I’ll admit, I’m an addict, but I’ll also confess I’m retired, in my early 60s, and unsure how my personal life will evolve. I’m hoping, probably dreaming, that I can put my dream system together, over the next few years, and be done. Hopefully, that’ll be before I’m done.
