How tough is your room?

Fernando-My speakers are already well into the room with reference to the back wall. I'm probably around 3' plus from the side walls. Moving them closer to the walls would widen the soundstage, but I don't think they will image outside of the speakers.

(...) I have great center fill and depth, but I don't have much going on outside the boundaries of the speakers. I have had a bunch of different electronics and that doesn't seem to have any affect. I don't know if that is a characteristic of bipolar speakers (mine are the Def Tech BP7000SCs).

It should not be a general characteristic of bipolars - Linkwitz speakers are bipolars and known to image outside the boundaries very well. As far as I know image outside the boundaries is due to phase effects and wall reflections - the problem can be either speaker implementation of your room. You Krell is particularly good in this aspect - do you remember when I referred to its capability of filling whole room with music after being hot? I was just addressing this capability of expanding the soundstage outside the limits of the speakers zone, well out of the room.

Any recommendations/suggestions Francisco?

i cant think of any reason even an inexpensive set of speakers cant image to the outsides.....oh, i tell a lie, there is one reason....the information IS NOT in the recording to start with.

Then put the BSG QOL in the system and have all the outside information you can handle!

I lived with bipolars for a few years, the trick is to measure the distance from the speaker to the back wall, it should be a multiple of the lowest freq. the driver is playing, this helps a lot! Anyway bipolars need a big room to soundstage properly, imho.

I am sure Gary will have some input...

In another thread ( Sonus Faber Aida vs. Magico Q5), I commented how I thought sonrock had a tough room to deal with:(. To some extent, many of us have "tough" rooms. In my instance, my dimensions are too small and too alike:(. My room is 10'X11'!! Luckily, i have a vault ceiling which goes to 13' at the peak and my room is dedicated to my system
So, to those of us who are dealing with a tough room, I ask what have been your solutions? Continuing challenges?

My system is housed in a dedicated room which is unfortunately 6x6m. I have placed the speakers on the room diagonal (as recommended in Jim Smiths Get Better Sound) and then spent countless hours in finding the optimal speaker placement aided by XTZ measurement system. Optimal to me is a smooth bass response and then positioning for other factors

Then I had custom room treatments installed and I am very chuffed with the results.

Neither is height ;)
