I heard my first 200k vinyl system today

Well that's good to know I mean at 57 I am an old headbanger . Although I listen to all genre ,s except rap. As long ad the recording is clean I want to hear it. I go from nirvana to van Morrison. Classical as well not that I know the names , but I have about 6 TB of music in hi Rez. Is any of the Stanley Clark stuff on vinyl . Like if this bass could talk is a clean album a little bright but clear .

Al

Most, if not all of Stanley Clarke's stuff is on vinyl.

The year of the least amount of LP production in the US was 1992.

Ever since Arcade Fire had their big hit a few years ago newer rock titles have been fairly easy to find. That Tron soundtrack with Daft Punk was a pain though. Sold out right away. BTW the reissue of the Blade Runner soundtrack with the original Vangelis material that came out last year is pretty nice.

I am sure if done even as just a beginning I am looking at 30 k easy . Why I need a good preamp figure 10k or more and that leaves 20k for TT And a cartridge . Even that may not be enough. I am thinking of a audio research preamp .

This is just thoughts . Before I do anything and after Myles schools me some the real journey begins . I have no idea what to get literately none . Preamp I have an idea and may be wrong , but I think audio research is a good concept.

It is!!

I can't remember if Myles had the stereo version..... The copy coming is also only VG - so I don't have great hope for it being clean. But that's OK. My go-to percussion album is still

Jack is right in that analog is like cooking your own meal - compared to digital which is like going to a restaurant.

Do you have this? I found a sealed 1st press at Atomic last year, I've never seen the japanese 45! when I saw it I sanpped it up quick, haven't heard the 45 yet, its on its way to moi. the music and sound on the original is as intriguing as shelly and jack's album "sounds unheard of!" on contemporary records - good stuff...No, great stuff!

Yes it was the CS version.

Yeah but why did AF do the Vangelis reissue from a 24/88 copy and not the original analog tape??? Pisses me off.

Well that's good to know I mean at 57 I am an old headbanger .

Opeth's "Damnation" (Koch, 2x LP) is an amazing 'unplugged' LP. I use this for auditioning.

AC/DC "Back In Black", Robert Ludwig Pressing...ditto

Living Colour "Vivid", 1988, B+ recording. Vernon Reid is a badass

The Kills "Blood Pressures", 2011, get the black (not colored) B+ recording but its Allison Mosshart :)

Nirvana "In Utero", 1993, Geffen

White Stripes "Icky Thump", 2007, Warner Bros

or

White Stripes "Elephant", Third Man Records reissue, 2013

or

Jack White "Blunderbuss", Third Man Records, 2012, B+ recording

despite of my earlier attempt to dissuade Al from the dark side, this thread has turned into an orgy for vinylphiles. yes, it is infectious at times.

I am keeping an open mind to this. I see no reason as yet to be anything but encouraged to hear it. About 15 hours left to hear it. Honestly I am very happy to be going through with this . We all or at least me have many things we want to try but never make the time. Last year and the beginning of this have proven to me time is important . Myles and others here are kind and from what I read he,s the man in this . If I do not like it , I feel i have given it a very good shot.
The short conversation we had regarding speakers was very cool as we have simpler sound likes in them . Ok I am done for the night .again thanks all in this .

Al-I can't wait to hear your report from visiting Myles. I hope everyone has a great time and you learn about the possibilities of what you can expect from the vinyl medium.

Al-After your last several posts, I finally have clarity on what your intentions are and what you are possibly willing to spend if you decide that LPs are for you. I hope we are on better terms now too. I really do want you to be happy with your final decision no matter what it ends up being. Vinyl is not for everyone obviously and it does take a commitment from you. Vinyl is not a "Look ma no hands" technology like digital is. It requires much more user involvement than digital does. I know Amir used to take offense when I called people who love digital "digital couch potatoes," but by comparison, digital is a couch potato experience compared to vinyl (and just imagine me offending someone around here!). With digital, you can sit on your butt for hours on end and never have to get up and take a record off, put it away, get out the next one, hopefully clean it, clean your stylus, and put your record on. And that is why I made the wisecrack about being a digital couch potato.

For me, spinning records is second nature as I have done it my entire life. I enjoy all of the rituals that are involved with playing back vinyl at the highest level I can afford.

We are fine so abuse me I will, laugh. As for the vinyl experience I am fine with it. allow me to say that if going to my office rig. I remotely turn on the HVAC , get the room to where I want it. At the same time I remotely turn on all audio equipment
By zones . I do this simply because it sounds much better after about 30 mins or more. So if I am willing to do this cleaning a record with some state of the art cleaner is fine , getting off the couch is fine too. The adjusting has me a little apprehensive only cause I am not sure how it's done . The why it's obvious to me Although not sure how often. I do RC HELI ,s and cars major tuning in both so as long as there are tools or a proven method that I can hear when ended or after done works . Hey who's got it better then me. And yes digital is super easy from my iPad or iPhones I can not only turn on and also can select from three different NAS drives with SS drives and see the album art. So yes with no pot seeds to clean the albums it's a little new hahahaha. Not to mention the 80,s !!!!.

So I am truly fine I just need to like it and candid honesty in selection of equipment . I spent boohoo bucks on Dac,s to get the good sound I wanted . I am ashamed of The money spent buying all the cheaper dacs and amps to get where I am now.

Well it was a really cool afternoon with myles . His setup sounds great and what a schooling of knowledge he has on audio.
I plan to post my thoughts but the truth is i need better words to describe what the difference is. Another big surprise is reel to reel. Myles set me up to be amazed and sat quiet as it happened. His speakers were the kind i like , that may sound foolish but to me its true . Even though we could spend big money does not mean that music to all ears but will be to some.

So after round two a very big comeback towards analog and he is the man to show you why. I suggested if passible to bring my MSB stack there to compare the two types of sounds. And the msb might do something better . I guess i just want to hear them side by side. I will say this he played some stuff from the 50/60's . What happened to audio with digital seems cruel as even a record from a digital master is not like the older pure analog. Now do not take offense to my statement or ignorance . I do want more more sessions and need more time to reflect. But for now analog is just different and i think is better in many ways. Also one last thought i cannot imagine anyone having an analog setup selling it. I could see adding digital but analog is just more real sounding.
Thanks again myles
Al
