If YouTube recordings sound good, why do commercial digital releases sound so bad.

When I use the term airy from PCM I am referring to this video for example.

Proac Studio 200 - Audiolab 8000 Series - Transparent Clable -Kraftwerk - The Robots

I find there is a harshness to the sound, It is also present on your recordings of your system playing tapes.

Did you listen to the Zoom H6 video I posted above, no harshness and much better than the Sony recorder.

I don't like zoom, it gives priority to low frequencies, the rest is average.
Then there is another factor that is no less important, the choice of headphones and even the amplifier we use to listen to these files.

the most important thing, our ears, nothing to do.

Tascam US-600 with DAC and Amplifier Akai AM 75 - Robert Miles - Joe Hisaishi - Querox Praxe - Blazy
This thread is for posting videos that sound better than commercially released music. If you have any, please post here.

Chris Potters playing is 'edge of your seat' enthralling here (for youtube), the opposite of his commercial releases.

I saw him live in a bar in Toronto some years ago and it was fun, but the sound was terrible!

The two videos you mentioned have very different sound - one being recorded live with a lot of room reverb. Apples and oranges.
