KeithR's "Dream Speaker" Search

Regardless of which one has power conditioning or not, for me the second video sounds better than the first video. The first video instruments are brought up and make me listen to instrument. The second video I am hearing the "music in the room" as a whole.

If this were on vinyl I would pick the violin as a spot to adjust the vta to get most presence and energy coming from that violin.

The music is very nice by the way sir. What is it?

Kind regards,
Tang

Max Richter - pick them all up on DG vinyl, Tang. Excellent modern classical. His Vivaldi Four Seasons is exceptional and unusual.

I was using my Brinkmann table all day for comparisons - I feel the Torus has more leading edge and vividness, while the passive might have more flow. It is quite different from my last apartment with 500 other units in proximity. I haven't heard the videos, but will do so tomorrow at my office.

speaker update:

After the Thanksgiving holiday, I have an appointment to hear the Voxativ Pi system. This will be my first time to hear the brand on KR Audio in an optimal, non-show setting.

Keith, a system w full range driver, no crossover and powered sub. Sounds familiar.

That could be quite interesting. Do you know which KR Audio amp?

don't know, but he's the US importer for both brands.

I've been meaning to go out and see him for years, finally figured why not. 90 minutes from my new location.
Sounds like a good idea! Probably will be a good combo, although, I haven't totally warmed up to the Voxativ sound...at least as I have heard in Munich the last several years. It is good sometimes but not with all music. The Pi system might be more "all aound" though because of the bass augmentation...I think I heard it once but no longer recall. The ones where they were operating their fullrange drivers, fullrange, were not completely satisfying.

It's a very tough call; I wouldn't venture here to say that one sounds superior to the other.
Any judgement I might say I am fully aware is inconsequential, so like Keith I agree.
I listened to them both every ten seconds or so and switching between, and like that till the end.
...And very attentively from an inferior music reproducer...laptop's speakers.

Next would be to connect to my sound system through HDMI (my laptop sports it) or through my Sennheiser cans or an adaptor (analog phone out to stereo analog in).

well as they say, it takes two to @Tango with @ddk and the (de) tweakers.

I think the instruments sound more distinct from one another, and I enjoy their respective timbres more, in the second video. To me it's not "night and day"; more like "a few clouds vs clear".

they aren't representative of my system at all, sorry to tell you guys. so much is lost in translation. you need a much better recording medium like Jana and others are using - iphones just don't cut it. those videos sound awful (seriously)

after 3 days of the Tripplite in my system I switched back yesterday and more noticeable differences appear. the biggest one is high frequencies are more natural and the midrange has more body and presence. i can only think that the Torus is taking out HF nasties in the power line or that the Tripplite is adding some. it was interesting that doing short term swaps i was noticing more leading edge, but after a few days and switching back I was actually noticing more decay. these differences were not night and day as before in my apartment, but still fairly obvious. I should also add that this time I was using MSB digital, not the analog like in my short term swaps on Sunday.

I would be more interested in comparing with a true power distributor, but I'm not sure of a good one out there for a reasonable price.

being honest, I can't hear much difference in the iPhone 7 videos at all

Me neither.

They do sound awful. Anyone who claims they can hear a difference has smoked too much, just in my opinion. But of course, the power of imagination is enormous, especially when you already have made up your mind as to what *should* sound better.

Actually, there wasn't much difference between those two, but that doesn't mean there isn't between those that Tang is putting up

funny you mention this - I was going to swap the names and then release the "news" later but decided against it.

Such a deceptive act would likely stifle any future discussion about differences heard from such videos and perhaps damage the credibility of the poster if discovered. It would be much better to simply ask opinions without any labels on the videos. Just call them A vs B.
