Koda K10 preamp in my home for evaluation

just a quick update, the very first unit which came to my house was not performing at its best due to my IC cables, I used rca from s7i to the k10 and xlr from the k10 to my karan 2000, so the switch was not in balance mode, so that might affect the overall performance on the day. Now everything is fully balanced from in to out so thats the reason why I hear it sounds completely different from the first time, and very very similar to the einstein which has 19 carefully selected NOS tubes. The Paganini I'm playing while typing these words are great, very very real and musical.
Congrats...really glad to hear. Having sota music in the house is such a joy...but the joy for an audiophile is double when the system is singing too. Congrats!

thank you Sir, the K10 is still running now, and I am looking for a power cord to use with it. All the mains cables in my system are top furutech with ceramic carbon connectors, bought brand new. But I am looking for a s/h one which is very hard to find at the moment, dont really want to spend for another brand new after burning a lots for the new K10. Do you have any suggestions Sirs besides the furutech?

tough one...i'd hate to see you 'skimp' temporarily after buying such an incredible piece of equipment. if you cannot find it second hand, you may be better off asking a few dealers of second hand furutech about finding you one? there are dealers who sell high volume amounts of certain cables...and then often call the manufacturer and locate a specific tradein cable or something for you.

yes Sir, I'm asking dealers around for their discount and cables for me, I think this will be sorted with no problem. some pics I took last week with the 2 K10.

my current one, just running in. there is a slight different from the one - the latest - I am using with the previous model, not with the specs and internal but external.

The Einstein was collected yesterday by the buyer and he thanked me very much for selling it to him, the massive differences and improvement in his system when adding the einstein. I demoed both the einstein and koda k10 to him yesterday when he came to my place, and surprisingly he told me the K10 sounded warmer than the Einstein but less trebling + resolution, besides less dynamic. However he feels the K10 sounded smoother and more organic, less fatigue and better according to his ears.

My K10 now has about 60h of running in total, so I believe after hundreds of hours, there will be more differences in the sound. The last pic I took to remind me of the Einstein yesterday, its great when the new owner loves it and will take care of it.

Thanks for posting the pics...it always helps to visualize what we discuss here ! I have to ask about the casters...just temp?

yes Sir until I can build or move to a bigger listening room, otherwise they must be on casters for easier moving around. those monsters are nearly 200kg/piece so it takes many hands to move them. I see you are using ayre monoblocks to drive your altair, do you think you'll change your power amps in the future Sir?

Yes I am curious about new amps. I am hoping Koda releases a phono stage soon...that's my next desire...amps maybe after that. I'd like to hear the Koda amps, others on my short list will likely be Gryphon and the VTL SiegFrieds. I suspect the amps are a year or two away financially...

absolare monoblocks driving altair speakers with no problem so I think the K70 mk2 will do the job properly - the price has gone up as you probably knew - and its great if your dealer will bring it to your room to try. with gryphon, are you thinking of the mephisto stereo or monoblocks? or lower version of Colosseum? I've not listened to VTL so have no idea.

Hey Jfrech, very very interesting. Would be great to see what you think of the mighty Gryphons. I do love them, though I admit I have not heard everything and certainly not in my own system. That said, I have been with Gryphon for a number of years now, and have no desire to move. In fact, with an eye to Rockport from Wilson...it seems a perfect match anyway since Andy Payor uses them in his systems (as well as CJ and Transparent Audio which I also use). Let me know if I can be helpful on Gryphon. No professional links whatsoever, just a big fan who has helped others get more info or speak with the manufacturer in the past. Good luck.

Congrats on the purchase Sonrock, best of luck with it

hello Sonrock,

Congratulations.
Are the Karans KAM-2000 amps ?

Should try one pair within a few weeks...:)

Any idea about a possible comparison between Koda K10 and SMC VRE-1C ?

Keep us posted about your impression on the Karan!

Will do.
The Karan monaurals will compete directly at home with the brand new Orthos XS (KT150, 400 Watts), Luxman M800a bridged and Chord SPM6000.
The will drive my Vivid Audio K1 and will try also to test them with a pair of Magnepan 20.7.
:)

sorry for late replying you Sir as I am quite busy over here. Yes, they are KAM2000, are you thinking to try them? trust me, you wont be disappointed. I have not heard something better, actually not had a chance yet, but at this price point, they are just an awesome beast.

Thanks for answering Sonrock.
Yes, I should have them for one month & half quite soon.

Not too bad because Milan Karan just makes them on order. Then, I should receive a brand new pair of silver loaners...
Just affraid about the back pain getting those at the first floor !:)

cool Sir, I've got mine brand new made too on a special order, and its great you can have them from loan - I just see you are a reviewer from 6moons :). I cant lift one on my own, so small me, and I believe you might need help for bringing those monsters up stair @@
