One of the owners of a pair of Apogee Synergy (a neodymium magnet Scintilla type variant) loudspeakers here in the UK also happens to be a materials expert.

I asked him what he thought about it. He said it was a BAD idea for one simple reason. Differing expansion and contraction rates of materials used stress the valve and may cause issues.

So don't do it.

I also have 4 cryo treated Mullard ECC88 that came witb a preamp. They are so microphonic it is beyond belief. I bet they weren't before they were cryo'd.

Are the Lampizator DAC engines capable of decoding 48k bases DSD sources?

Did you get those ones?
Yes, I did. I also got a U52 and WE 422a. Everything warming in, and I've been traveling, so no verdict so far. How are the Psvane Acme and Elrog 274Bs treating you thus far?

What are you moving to, the new recti with the PX25?

I have had the KR PX25 RKs for a while now and I'm very happy with them. Unfortunately, the 242s overdrive my amp even though my new preamp ameliorated a little bit of the distortion I was experiencing (RE: Your PM, which I've been meaning to respond to). The PX25 also plays well with the complement of tubes I have available for my amplifier, which uses 805s, 300Bs, 6SN7s, and a 6SL7. If the 242s didn't overdrive my amp, I would have kept them in addition to the PX25s. IMO, they are equally as good, but different enough to have both. Since I've been on a rectifier binge recently, letting them go is financially wise.

Just installed the Marconi U50 rectifier. It's wonderful! Thanks Adamaley for the recommendation.
Back to listening...

Glad you like it. It's a great value, and sounds different from all the other rectis I've tried so far.

Ok, so the pre works with them?

Gee you’re in a recti spree these days :).
They are both great and I’ll give them a proper spin next week as I’ll have more free time and will report back.
But I’m also trying to locate some normally priced U52 and U50 for collection :D

Yes it does. It's very low gain, and it gives sufficient play for balancing the Lampi GG VC and its own VC to achieve optimal sound in my system with the 242s. Infinitely more songs became listenable and distorted less compared to going direct to the amp or using any other preamp. However, this didn't apply to all songs, hence the PX25s.

Not to mention, the Misho preamp does everything else better than any other preamp I've tried.

Ah so you are one of the guys having Misho amplification . Heard from many places its a top notch gear...

I only have his preamp currently. I've been all smiles since receiving it. Only focusing on tubes now ;-)

Which tube switch setting do I use for PX25s, high heater (300B) or low heater (45)?

On the GG1.9 with the two position switch, I used the high voltage (300b) setting for the PX25.
On the Pacific with the 5 position rotary switch, I use the 101d position for the PX25.

I finally got my pair of PX25s. I assume it will take 20-30 hours for them to open up so I will refrain from making any listening comments until then.

I tried using them on the low gain setting but decided to use them on the high setting. I can still turn my preamp up 40% so I think I am ok.

I know you got them ;). Gave some %#*} to Franek but he told me he had some issues with KR as such so hence delayed deliveries...hope you’ll enjoy them! Great tube!
