Lampizator Valve / Tube Rolling Review Thread

I know you got them ;). Gave some %#*} to Franek but he told me he had some issues with KR as such so hence delayed deliveries...hope you’ll enjoy them! Great tube!

Thanks for your help.

I wasn't upset that they were delayed. I was bothered that Franek wasn't communicating. I told him as such.

Did you prefer the PX25s to 300Bs in your GG2?

How long do you think it takes for them to open up?

Oh yes - much better than 300b. I had Elrog combo yesterday in PAC and it’s just depressing. Plugged in KR242RK and the feeling is like a new system. But have to be honest in my GG2 300b was very nice but i could not enjoy them as one of old gen Elrogs went dead on me (bitch ).
Anyhow PX25 with 242 is the top top top contender IMHO in both GG2 and PAC. No need to look further...but as our professor @Alrainbow would advice you need to burn them in properly...check detailed instruction on EML website ;)

Wait, the EML website?

I did not like the Elrog 300B in my Big7 but I really do like the Tak 300Bs so it will be interesting how the PX25s compared.

Thanks for the reference. They explain it nicely. I am coming up on 4 hours so I better start to spin some vinyl or reels!

That’s why we are here - to help each other...as we are all in the same pain :)

As my PX25s break in I am also periodically rolling rectifiers. I really didn't think that the Brimar 5Z4GY was anything special so I am back to my Tak 274B. Much nicer! Music seems to be more 3D. It also seems less noisy.

I will go with this combo for 20 hours or so and then bring something else in.

I have a playlist that I listen to at the beginning and end of any tube roll.

If you think you are getting a lower noise floor with some rectifiers versus others just wack the gain right up with your preamp with no music on. Then do compares. You'll easily hear it .

I have proven to myself that that this is really due to worn out versus good rectifiers. A valve tester really does help and let you know for sure.

Also it helps you send back poorly matched new valves which is obviously common business.

Tell the vendor you have a tester (even if you haven't) before you buy and you will get better valves I am sure.

Has anyone had a chance to compare Tak 300B plus Tak recti to KR RK PX-25 with the same recti? I’ve been listening to these two combos for the last 2 months, and I cannot make up my mind.
To my ears Tak 300B is very linear, but a bit flat and lacks dynamics. The PX-25 is very dynamic and exciting, but is shrill on some music. It is not bad, but with PX I feel, that I am listening to digital. I switch to vinyl and the sound is both smooth and dynamic! Maybe it is just my room or system, but this issue is driving me nuts.
Is there another tube and recti combination, that would have the smoothness of Takatsuki and drive of PX-25?

I am in the process of doing this but I can't draw any conclusions yet since the PX25s are still too new.

Having said that, I have not noticed the PX25s being shrill on any music up to this point.

Thanks for that clever advice, Justin

In my Pacific, the Takatsuki trinity is very special: very palpable and very 3d and very organic and musically envolving.

The Combo PX25 with the Taka recti is also VERY good and ime far from shrill.
On what heater setting are you using your PX25?

Maybe I should go back to Tak trinity and give it another try. Shrill is probably too strong a word, what I mean it is more forward sounding, and PX25 is definitely has more drive comparing to Tak 300B.
And I am using it on the recommended 101 setting.

I use the 300B setting nowadays for my PX25s after using the 101D setting for a while. The 300B setting is less strident and forward and may cure your current ills

Can a 6A3 be used in a Big 7 / GG without an adapter?

I decided to pull the PX25s out and re-listen to my WE 275As. It has been a while since I had them in.

The comparison to the PX25s is interesting. The 275As are a big lighter in the bass and there is a little congestion in the mids but overall I feel it has a more organic, natural sound. The PX25s are very detailed and the bass is unbeatable but sometimes they are a tad too much “in your face.”

You have the GG2 with the 5 Position Rotary Switch, right?
Then the 101d is the correct Setting, according to LF.

I have never heard 275As so cannot comment.

Then the KR 242 is definitely not for you :D
