Lampizator Valve / Tube Rolling Review Thread

The main was R2R engin, then reduction of gain for PCM , Duelund Cast Pio capacitors, I had also black acrylic top plate and acrylic sides , finally the newest Amanero board, but it was already 2-3 years ago. It’s possible that some options are standard now.

I just got mine upgraded. They have now moved onto the engine 53 and some other things. I am very happy with the upgrade.

I have a DHT question. Do the tubes need to test similarly like preamp tubes in order to avoid a left/right channel imbalance or is it ok if the testing are different as long as both tubes test “good”? This is for use in a Lampi DAC.

They don't need to be bang on matched.

Put it this way. My Lampi 45 GM Mesh measure 2.5 and 3 mA/V when new spec is 2.2 ma/V for a standard 45. I can't hear a really significant channel imbalance over that which you hear between different recordings anyway. But it must be there.

What I do expect is new valves to be matched better by the vendor.

Since I really like the Sylvania 6A3s in my B7 MKII I bought a pair of Tung Sol 6A3s to compare. So far they are sounding nice. I don't think they are NOS so they should be fairly broken in already.

On a side note, my digital setup has never sounded better. While I have made some small changes in addition to the MKII upgrade, I would say that the MKII upgrade is worth 80%.

Whilst bi-amping with 211s on Apogee MRT and Luxman on the bass the Tung Sol 6A3 is giving really nice results.

One thing I should have said. I got the very last pair of EML 45 Globe Mesh from the original Lampi 45 GM project. They don't have Lampi markings. So it is not surprising they don't match that well. They couldn't be matched!!!

One thing that is killer about Tung Sol 6A3 is its lack of microphony. It beats any EML or KR tube I have tried.

I haven’t noticed any microphony with the Sylvania either.

Hi all:
I'm a new and happy owner of a Lampizator Big 7 balanced DAC! Did not want to start a new thread, but would like get some advice about tubes as this is a whole new world for me.
Prior to the Lampi, I had a Bricasti M1 but wanted to try something else and read so much about Lampizator here and on various other forums
As I owned a BAT VK600SE which only has balanced inputs, I had to buy the balanced version of the Big 7. Unfortunately of course it is quite an expense to buy 4 tubes for the balanced DACs especially if you would like to try the higher end tubes.
I bought my Lampi from a kind man from Poland. It has no preamp section or volume control so got a Passive Hattor preamp with it as well. It was delivered with KR Audio 5U4G Anniversary Lampizator Special Edition rectifier tube(and 2 other cheaper rectifiers). The output tubes was a set of PSVANE 300b and a set of 101D. Both were just the regular versions(not UK version or WE replicas).
Listening to the 300B right now and think the music is very involving and detailed.

However, I am of course interested in other tubes as well which perhaps could be an improvement to the PSVANE 300B and 101d. Read a lot of threads, but am not sure what to get. Probably will only buy one new set for now..
I am leaning towards the KR PX25, perhaps the 242. Saw the PX25 for $500 a pair which looks like a good price. However shipping to Europe, I would have to pay costum as well.

What do you guys think? I'm listening to various kinds of music though not much classical. Do like some punch in the bass as well as clear upper tone.

I would be happy to buy some used tubes as well, especially from Europe if anyone has PX25 that they are thinking about selling?

Thanks

Congrats on your Big7.
Where in Europe are you located?
Maybe there are other Lampi Enthousiasts close to you who could lend you tubes to try before you buy into the blue...

PX25 is a good one. 242 are not super expensive either.

NU 45s are very nice and are cheap on Ebay. I heard talk that the cheap 101ds are better than the WE replica.

I live in Denmark.
Actually, I have not tried the 101Ds yet. Will pop them in this weekend. Was able to find some VAIC VALVE VV30B 300b tubes from a local privat seller. Unfortuntately he only had 3 of them and it's difficult to find them anywhere else. Could have been fun to try them out.

Will look up the NU 45, thanks for the suggestion!

Today’s combination is a pair of Sylvania 6A3s and a WE 422A. Sounds really good.

One thing I was wondering about is if people’s tube preferences are influenced by whether they listen to a lot of analog sources in addition to digital. I think it may have something to do with it.

I don't see why. Good is good. What you are saying is people who also listen to analog might have a better sense of good.

Lampi valves depend on how the Lampi with the tubes in mates with your pre. If you rotate preamps your choice of valve will change. Some will just sound lifeless or rolled off in comparison to others, or meh at best.

I don't see why. Good is good.

People’s ears, really their brains, get tuned to a particular sound and it becomes satisfying to them. If they don’t listen to any analog sources then their frame of reference is different.

This isn’t about analog being better than digital. It is about finding something in a particular sound.

There are many different sounds, both analog and digital which are “good.” One person’s “good” is not necessarily the same as someone else’s.

People's ears get tuned to their own system sound, analog or digital

That’s exactly my point. If you listen to a lot of analog you get tuned to something different than if one’s only source is digital.

Anyone know if an 8 Watt heater (4V at 2 amps) is more than a Big 7 or GG can handle?

EDIT: PX25 is 8 Watts so the answer is it should be fine. Sorry about that...:D;)
