My DAC is a Golden Gate 2, which was modified to cater to the 242, but I still had issues with even the PX25. It passes signal on to a Misho Myronov Preamp, then on to a Line Magnetic 508ia running in amp only mode. The issue lies with the fact that the Line Magnetic amp, even in bypass mode has the preamp tubes adding gain to the signal. Also, since the Misho Myronov preamp doesn't have a remote, I rely on the full Lampi volume pot for attenuation.

However, I am not looking to change anything component wise as I am extremely happy with the sound I have now with the Acme 300Bs. I'm tempted to try another output tube with similar gain attributes as the 300B, or close to it.
i would guess thst Tesla AD1n gain is similar to 300b. Ad1 is 1amp vs 2amps for Ad1n. philips4883 is same as Telef Ad1.

Sourcing is in CZ republic or CH. Adaptors from China.

Right from the start I have been running those very big KR T100 (with adaptors) and wonder why nobody here seems to have tried them.
I like them very much but as I need four of them for my symmetric PAC with volume I never experimented with other tubes. Too expensive for me and I hardly felt any audiophilia nervosa since I got my Ypsilon Aelius amps.
I did order a Psvane ACME 274B from Tube Amp Doctor to replace my Ricardo Kron Special Edition 5U4G which has been running long hours, but the ACMEs are out of stock and have no delivery date yet.

Now you have the tube extenders, no more need to remove top plate. Should try again if you get the chance.

Hi - I am new to this site and to this particular forum. I had a few questions about tube rolling in my GG2. Currently I have the EL 45 anniversary mesh and a EL 5U4G Rect. I want to experiment with different tubes and it sounds like after reading here the PX-25's are the answer next or the 242's? The tempertaure selector switch on the rear of my deck has "45" at the top and on the bottom 300B/101D /PX4 except 300B and 101D are crossed over with a black marking pen... something from the factory I guess?
Should be fine.
PX25 should be used in the 101d position. 45 and 242 should be used in the same switch setting.

Actually I only have the Tesla AD1n.

Past comparisons with ECC803S and PCC88 between Telefunken and Tesla taught me that for small signal valves Telefunken are no better.

I am therefore not to fussed about getting the Telefunkens. But they could indeed be better. Who knows til you try? And even then it might vary system to system and person to person.

@Golum I've been trying to respond to your PM but for some reason I can't post my response. Must be something up with the site.

RD27AS on their way. Only an OK matched pair not NOS.

Also I scored a cross swords AD1n. If you ever see cross sword Teslas as a rule you should buy them. It's the law.

Why? It's the best quality mark effectively using the best materials and construction.

I wonder if they ever made any RD27AS as cross swords. Top level awesomeness I suspect.

Thanks for this info. I need a little bit of clarification? Are you suggesting the AD1n will have more gain @ 2 amp than the AD1 @ 1 amp?

@User211 You have only tried the AD1n, right? Or was it the AD1? Have you compared it, gain-wise, to any 300B?

No AD1n has normal gain about the same as a 300B.

Tesla only made AD1n.

There are some 100% examples on eBay now at a stupidly low price. I cannot believe they haven't sold yet. These valves trash anything KR or EML make IMHO. Why spend £1200 on RKs?
