You think these will work with GG?

Its 4V, 0.9-1.2A heater tube with PX25 pins so adapter is needed...
I asked Yoda about both RE604 and YO-186 and i got this response: "604 is like 242 heater but pinout has crossed legs i think; 186 is heated like px4 and has crossed legs as well; 300b base is ux4. Heater, heater, grid, anode. The 604 base is heater grid heater anode."
Based on this i abandoned YO-186/RE604 "project"

BTW the picture I was looking at of YO-186 looked like it had UX4 pins but the spec says otherwise.

A 5C3S rectifier has arrived. £13.99.

I can now go fully Soviet block: 6N6P->5C3S->6C4C.

Must listen to Back in the USSR. Loud.

When I can. DAC is away having more mods as described earlier. In other words the filament voltage control trim pots and test points for the Rod Coleman regulators.

I wonder if the fully Russian combo will gel as well as using the Westinghouse VU71. Skeptical, but hey. Til you try...

Spec is quite impressive it has to be said.

To keep Led Ked (see what I did there?) happy I will use a 35ft USB cable costing £2.37

Interested to see what you think. Its a pretty cheap upgrade compared to alternatives and has the potential for an external clock upgrade.

It's really just curiosity since I use coax mainly these days and optical in the past as I didn't like the Amanero but I will say how I find it. Will be a few weeks just to get the part.

If it is good I will probably use it quite a bit.

I am using metal base Phillips GZ34 rectifier now, and I'm impressed.

There's not many metal based rectifiers still available, price for those tubes is high, but for some audiophiles they are the best rectifiers in history. Well, they have a unique, metal base sound signature.

It’d be nice to read and compare your impressions with mine.

Yes. As long as they are a compatible valve.

Lots of valves like UX 226, RCA number 31 (type 231 I think). Many look similar to UX112.
Anyone looked into these?

Look at the heater V and A and you’ll know more or less if usable..
But as said i check each “new” type with Lukasz..

I would be careful with the 30 and 31 tubes. The tubes have very little in the way of filament voltage and current. They are also relatively rare tubes and are hard to find. I would worry that the filaments will be torched very quickly. If you are into that tube, the 01A and 12 are not rare, are similar and are cheap.
