I emailed our friend Lukas to see if he had another pair of RD27AS. It looks like they are all gone. That'll teach me to always buy 2 pair of any new limited tube in case I really like it. Hopefully one will show up somewhere.

I put about 30-40 hours on the WE 300B and then went back to the RD27AS to compare. I much prefer the RD27AS. I probably need to put more hours on the WE 300B but if things don't start to improve to my liking someone will be buying that pair at a nice discounted price. I guess I should also roll a couple different rectifiers with it.

D., RD27AS is a monster tube but not many guys followed the advice;). I’ve been chasing additional pair since we got ours but no luck and I’m quite sure it will stay like that:(

Thinking about it the reason my opinion changed on RD27AS must be the last DAC mod that added a second Toroidy to drive 4V 2A valves correctly.

It is a top valve.

Dminches if you got a good pair I think you'll find the RDs will last you for a very long time indeed. So I wouldn't worry.

You are probably right but it is hard to defeat paranoia of something going wrong.

It's a high gain tube. If it isn't exactly the same as the KR it isn't far off.

I am listening to it now. I've be writing on this thread for a while now. I have heard a lot of sh*t. So...

In my DAC this is the best I have ever heard. It's just bleeding edge good.

That said we all like different things.
Is it a low or high heater tube?
Kindly/Ingemar

On the new WE300B, I felt the same after 2 days ( 48hrs ) so I wrote to WE, they said 500 hours is the number to run in, true enough the transition take place after about 100 hours, so please give it more hours.

I think R86 is RadioTechnique and 4.5V 1.0A same as Philips 4606.

101D setting should be OKish for it.

Which of the above will NOT work with the Big 7? I have 300b, 01A, 112a, 6a3 and 45. Are there any DHT’s which I’m missing for the B7 which any of you have really liked?

I have put another 100 hours on the WE 300Bs and the midrange has become very sweet. The bass is very tight. I will assess the high end once I put the RD27AS back in. No harshness at all. They have definitely become very enjoyable.

Glad things are looking up for the WEs.

I think the sign of a truly great valve is when your mind isn't drawn to any particular identifiable aspect of it's performance. At least, if neutrality is the yardstick for you.

That's why I am liking TMBF1 so much at the moment. It really is very uncoloured indeed.

On the block. Metal base Radio Technique R86. Non-metal is available.

2 hours in and obviously fantastically euphonic with rock.

Lowish gain, before people ask, because it's important to people, obviously.

Susceptible to RF from an Amazon Firestick.

These measure great but have obviously seen a lot of use over the years. Love that they've seen massive use and still make it on the test bench. Sign of true quality.

A definite fleshed out, generous, sound great quality is obvious. Does a fab Whole Lotta Love.

Pneuma by Tool on Amazon Music Ultra HD via R86 just phenomenal. All 11:53 of it.

Big, boxy metal plates just love metal, obviously:)

I am a new B7 owner, but my next tubes to consider are KR 242s, PX25, PX4 from Lampi.

I have quads of NOS National Union 45s, RCA 112a, Cunningham 01a purchased and on deck now.

I also have rectis USAF 596 and Natonal Union 5u4g, as well as RCA 5u4g ready to try.

Currently burning in with stock Shuguang 300b-98s, 5c3s Russian recti and sounds pretty darn good already.

I am also looking at
TJ MESH PLATE 300B from diyhifisupply.

So I have some weirdness with my Pacific SE.

i recently got the reissue WE300b and Elrog 300b-MO, and Tak 300b. So I decided to do some tube rolling on 300b. So here is the weirdness, on the we 300b and tak 300b, the right channel is dead silent. I have switched the tubes (right left) in either case and same dead right channel. However on the elrog 300b-mo, both channels work fine. all tubes used in the 300b lampi setting. Oh when the right channel is quiet, the tube isn’t giving off any heat so I assume it’s not getting power.

any ideas or suggestions?
