Forgive me for starting what might be viewed as a silly thread, but I couldn't help myself.
Sometimes I really enjoy setting the mood for what I'm going to listen to. Last night I decided it was going to be rock.
Recently on an impulse buy while shopping for LED bulbs to replace incandescents I noticed inexpensive color LED bulbs. These come with a remote control and can be set to cycle through colors in a smooth fashion, etc. I installed them in track lighting over my speakers and it created a great 'stage' feel. It's kinda corny but incredibly effective at the same time. The listening area is dark and somehow facing (and staring) at the lighted end of the room is entertaining to me - at least with rock music.
Here's some quick snapshots to show how it looks (it didn't come through well but since I have 3 lights they can often be a mix of colors):
If I'm listening to jazz, I don't employ these lights and go for either very dimmed lighting or complete darkness. Sometimes if I'm listening to eclectic music I might light candles.
