Lovely machine vdrs 20,mostly kss sony laser needs cleaning&new calbriation then it works perfect.
 
Probably also need a new gear on the shaft for the motor that drives the laser.
I think the old one has cracked.
The CD doesn't read the discs and the display goes into error mode.

It makes loud running noises when reading when the laser moves back and forth? It could also be that the grease and oil have become resinous after not being used for a long time. You need to find someone who can separate the lens from the laser, clean it and recalibrate the focus. The laser works in 90% of cases and has enough power. Most people replace the laser even though it isn't necessary.
you need a good repair shop that mainly does this kind of thing and has the right measuring equipment. Good luck
