Magico M7 2023

When you get the money, just buy them. Big speakers in a small room? Michael Fremer calls it "near field Cinerama" sound.

I don't subscribe to that philosophy.

large speakers, small room is a dice roll. but some spaces are not easily understood. Fremer's room has a side room open to the listening space where he inventories his vinyl, so his actual total space in cubic feet is quite spacious. just not in front of the speakers.

Fremer makes the best of it. and his deal was he preferred it overall to the Alex's. not that the XVX is ideal for the space. no absolutes one way or the other from that situation.

And his speakers are even bigger than M7 ;)
But if you look at Stereophile’s measurements of his 1/6-octave smoothed response, you can see how many bass peak and troughs there were (and there probably would be more at 1/12 or higher).
Sure, part of it is due to the corner placement. But I strongly suspect a lot of it were due to an unwillingness to optimize seat placement and put up additional acoustic treatments. A smaller speaker would give him a lot more flexibility in speaker and seating position and allow for more room for proper acoustic treatments.

I think 24ftx18ft

Yes, for the M7 the room needs to be a certain width I think. Yours is probably a good guesstimate. Perhaps you might be able to get away with 16 feet (4.9 meter) but that may be pushing it. Room height probably should also be more like10 feet minimum, it's not a short speaker.

I heard today for the first the Magico M6 at local dealer. Sourced by J Sikora TT and DS Audio cartridge, driven by Pilium electronics, the M6’s sounded very transparent and coherent with superb bass texture. I can only imagine how much better the M7 is.

There was also a Magico sub behind. Both subs were not turned on.
Thanks, I could not see any cables connected to the Goebel sub so I appreciate the confirmation that the M6 was playing solo.

I am familiar with the Magico line up but not familiar with Goebel products. Here in the USA there is no opportunity (that I am aware of) to hear them side by side with a Magico. I certainly would enjoy hearing them in the same room, with the same equipment, to learn more about them.

This dealer carries Goebel and Magico. There was a pair of Goebel Marquis at the side wall but i didn’t listen.

From in the garage in the BIG crates to playing music in 2 hours.

The M7s are just breaking in now for 200-300 hours. Then we will remove the pins in the M-Pods and position the speakers in their final resting places.

Nice! Can you tell us about room size?

Thank you! I am surprised as it is a "small room" , didn't think it would be fine for M7. Will this room be acoustically treated?
