Magico M7 2023

Rockport Arrakis, Magico M7 / M9, Wilson Alex / Chronosonic, Vandersteen 7, EA MM7, and mine ;-)

Add subs and they're even better.
Please do not forget the Tidal La Assoluta loudspeakers. Tidal audio employs - unlike the various Magico speakers, including the M9 - a real diamond tweeter and two real diamond midrange woofers per loudspeaker. Have not heard yet the M9 and M7 but is it not likely that real diamond units will sound better than diamond coated units?

B&W also uses a real diamond tweeter
It doesn't necessarily mean it sounds better than Focal's beryllium or Magico's tweeter

Of course the performance of any high end loudspeaker is linked to various aspects, such as the quality of the xovers, the cabinet, etc. But ceteris paribus: how can diamond coated units sound as good as real diamonds units?

If there's a good synergy between beryllium and diamond , then it could possibly sound better than just diamond
Just Becaue diamond is precived as a more expensive material it doesn't necessarily mean it would sound better , just as a titanium alloy with some other metals could sound better than pure titanium

Well, of course there are some very good sonic reasons why quite a few loudspeaker manufacturers - notwithstanding the (much) higher costs - are employing real diamond tweeters (and as is the case with Tidal Audio, in particular in their Akira and La Assoluta loudspeakers while the latter is also equipped with two real diamond midrange woofers) in stead of diamond coated units. Anyway, my point is that at the price level of the M7 and M9 one might/would expect ‘the best’ tweeters and (midrange) woofers.

Tidal loudspeakers and B&W which employ diamond tweeters are popular brands in Hong Kong.
I listened to them many many times over the years but they are not my cups of tea.

Loudspeakers employing other kinds of tweeter such as Magico, YG Acoustics, Wilson, Rockport, Stenheim ...etc are IMHO more musical, natural and enjoyable.

Fair enough and I can only speak about the Tidal loudspeakers which I am very familiar with: due to their real diamond units and high quality built they are extremely revealing (or if you want: quite ruthless) and showing any possible issue in the audio chain. Without top notch grounding I can fully understand that audiophiles might prefer other set ups. But this is a thread about Magico so let’s go back to that.

On a more serious note I've heard the same about some other brands that are famous for using diamond tweeters that they're very fragile
That’s why some protect them…

All are invited to come and hear the M7 at Rhapsody in Brooklyn sometime in Q1 when our now ordered pair of Magico M7 will be delivered. They will be playing with Taiko, VYGER, Pilium, Kondo and VYDA.

You can hear the Magico M9 at the Rhapsody Dallas location or the M7 at Rhapsody.Audio - Brooklyn.

A good friend of mine in HK has placed order for a pair of M7.
But I guess dealers may get their demos first?

Not so sure about that. But most likely because your friend placed his order and Rhapsody placed our order at around the same time both orders would be fulfilled from the first production run of the M7.

Of course, Tidal too, there are also others.

WRT diamond units sounding better than diamond coated or other materials, IME it's not that simple. The drivers (including quantity, material, motor structure, basket design, etc.) while critical to a speaker design is part of a bigger inter - dependent system. The crossover, the cabinet materials and design, the footers, internal wiring and the internal absorptive tech all need to work together. Also, I'm not convinced it's as simple as - it's the hardest material therefore the best for driver cones. Contrast this with paper cones still in use at the highest end of speaker sonics.
