You might want to chose something that has significant output below 40hz
For the comparison.
I also upload the music at same volume with sub woofer off.
I also had tried Gate of Dafos but got similar impression. You might want to chose something that has significant output below 40hz

I am using the crossover function inside XLS 2502.Since you have the subs you might want to try different crossover frequencies. For example try 80Hz so the sub is now doing the first 2 octaves. I don't know what you are using as a crossovers but if it's a L/R it's 6dB down at the crossover point. That and the slope and you are barely even using the subs.
Rob
OK so you are using the DSP in the amp. So it is 24db L/R, you are limited to frequency only. How are you rolling of the A7's?? If you are not experiment with the polarity on the subs. There could be an inversion you may not be aware of.I am using the crossover function inside XLS 2502.
80hz appears to be too high but I will try 60 hz.
My next project start with 18"woofer too as ripole
I had added two 18 inch Scaena subwoofers at 45 hz lowpass crossover using Crown XLS 2502.
It add slightly more rumble and tighter bass.
But the difference is rather small.
That means Altec A7 can do well without any subwoofers at my listening room.
re-labeled eighteen sound woofer (bastanis speaker mandala)not available today .when you build a ripole search for a woofer with fs ~ 35hz,qts around 0.4-0.6 and linear stroke of 6-8mm. Look beymawhich woofer are you using?
Did you make those tonearms? I don't recognise them. Here's the Tchaikovsky 3rd movement with David Oistrakh and Kondrashin
