My auto return has stopped working

I have a Aiwa PX-E500 turntable, and has recently developed an issue. So when it gets to the end of the record it would get to the run off part and lift up and retract to the resting point, but now it just sits at the end of the record and I have to return the arm manually. Also the "cut" button doesn't work either. I'm sure its something simple so I'm sure someone has an explanation for what's happening, any help is much appreciated.

Dirt, have you ever had it cleaned or cleaned it? Can get dust buildup around the sensor and switches.

I had some repairs done on it just over a year ago, and it had a bit of a service then. But it wouldn't hurt for me to clean it now and see what happens.
