My (SMT) room

It is huge! 11 x 6 x 4m.
Wonderful room! But extremely curious about the details: the lateral wing-diffusers appear to NOT cover a portion of the sidewall, one being the entrance door. Are they fabric-covered treatment modules placed at the L/R first-reflection points, and are they filled with thick broadband absorptive foam?

Horns are very directive, so my major concern is the walls directly in front of me and behind me. There I have the Svanå Wing and S-wing. To dispatch energy both in direction and time domain.
The Absorbents are from a Swedish company called Bullerbekämparen. They are very broad banded and takes care of a lot of remaining energy in the room that allows me to play quite loud without overloading the room.
the Avantgardes have active bass with a 10 band parametric EQ that takes care of acoustic problems below 290hz.

Thank you Adagio. I started to build a small vacation house in the mountains that will also have a dedicated listening room designed by SMT. Hope to finish it in a year. Btw, have listened to Franc Kuzma new SMT listening room (very similar to the Magico) and was absolutely amazed how great it sounds and looks.

Yes, CAR-30 is a great cartridge and it also has the best price/performance ratio in the CAR line IMO. I would not say it's better than the Benz LPS but it certainly is less “romantic” and more upbeat, controlled and dynamic.
Are those Legacy speakers ?

Yes, doors are covered with absorbent material.

I'm curious, because I'm building a similarly proportioned dedicated listening room in my basement... at Franc Kuzma's new SMT listening room, were the absorptive sidewall treatments (and the door) located at the 1st reflection point between the loudspeakers and the prime listening seat?

That's where the highest loudness direct energy will be striking the sidewalls, and placing absorptive material there would result in a discontinuity from the diffusive treatment on the rest of the sidewalls. I'm wondering why SMT didn't advise placing diffuser panels along the entire sidewall (including the door surface), to preserve continuity.

Sorry, I can’t comment. You should contact SMT or Franc.

With this post, I’m starting to log build phases of our alpine log house with a dedicated listening room in the basement. Dimensions of the house are 12 x 6m, the listening room will be 6 x 8 x 2.7m. A modest SMT Level 1.5 system will be installed, focus is on warm and cozy feeling. If you like my present listening room, you will like a new one at least as much.

Here’s a look from the plot (April 2023), just before preparations and construction begun.

First photo of the room. Doesn’t look like much, ha?

Where is that, if I may ask?
It's just beautiful

@Marcus the basement looks very deep, based on earlier pic with a person near the wall. Approximately how deep (high) is the basement?

Very interesting to see the build pics. Thanks for posting. You sure you'll ever make it to the basement with that view? Cheers!

Nothing extraordinary. It’s about 3m at the moment but in the end, it will be 2.7m after insulation and everything else is installed.

Thanks. Will do my best.

And here’s the basement floor plan. I'm thinking about placing speakers on the longest wall or on a wall perpendicular to this on the opposite side of the stairs.

Found this interesting "first-reflection-delay analysis" of side wall reflections on the net. Even more interesting is that it analyzes Siegfried Linkwitz’s listening room which has almost identical dimensions as mine. That somewhat confirms my presumption that placing speakers on the long wall could possibly sound better. Of course, only experiments with my speakers will show if that’s true, but it’s nice to see something like this. :)
