Natural Sound

action and energy associated with the images varies, from recording to recording. stuff like fingers on keys or strings and 'chest' or 'mouth' in vocals, the woodiness and power of a cello, skin of the drums, the sense of suddenness to the music......stuff that seems to cross the border of realism. when it is a natural part of the image bringing it more alive i call that action. movement, intensions.

I don't quite understand. Are you talking about visual images in your head? You've told us you don't go to many live performances. Do you watch a screen with orchestras performing? I know DG sells access to live performances that you can watch on tv. I have a John Williams DVD of him conducting the Berlin Philharmonic (?); it has excellent visuals of musicians playing their instruments.

@PeterA , is there a significance to your 'all-black' avatar? never seen one before, and assumed it had to be intentional and had some sort of meaning.

if you would rather not answer and prefer, i'm happy to delete this post. not seeking controversy, just curious.

Yes. Others have asked me privately. Avatars become property of WBF according to the TOS. My former avatar is one of my photos and I do not want to have to ask permission from WBF to use it. I took the photo and like it and want to share it. I decided to remove it before losing that ability. It is the same reason that some people only read and do not post. They want to retain ownership of their content.

really.Peter, do you really believe your avatar becomes the property of WBF ?

I've searched our TOS and fail to find such mention, or is this all part of the conspiracy theory that I keep reading about. Personally I like your new one for all the usual reasons. FWIW your avatar is not content Peter, it's a friggin avatar and you really believe what you just posted ?

That was quick. Yes I do believe it Steve. Why do people always pull out the "conspiracy" card? Here is my reasoning, plainly stated in the WBF Terms of Service (TOS):

18. All material posted becomes the property of the What's Best Forum. All postings and material contained in this site are copyrighted and may NOT be republished or reposted without express written consent of forum administrators.

Others believe it too and have left or stopped sharing photos.

Steve, If I want to send a copy of my first ten posts and embedded photos that open this system thread, to whom specifically should I ask for express written consent?

Or, does this #18 in the TOS simply mean that WBF will not honor a request from a member to delete his own posts so they remain as valuable content for the website?

Can you please clarify this? Can I publish my own essay and my photos elsewhere which I shared here to start this thread?

Steve, it's a trap! ;)

Peter, google “blackout avatar.” It’s being used to communicate a variety of different messages over social media, some of which you might not want to be associated with! Miss your nice sailing photo, btw!

This seems like an overwrought concern to me.

I have posted my photographs and my writings on other social media sites, including on other audio forums. The legalese "boilerplate" applicable to those internet venues never troubled me.

If you were a professional painter or a professional photographer posting on WBF your high resolution photographs or high resolution photographs of your original paintings, then I would understand.

But fretting over a random photo of your boat on the water?

A black square for your avatar seems like a silly form of protest. But you have every right to use whatever avatar you wish (subject to the ToS).

The foregoing notwithstanding the ToS says what it says, and I respect your wish not to have your photographs be subject to it.

Yeah, I never bothered to think about it either. I'm not a too concerned person.

Having, said that, I think it's the TOS that's a bit overwrought.

I was going to use white, but that might be interpreted in some ways too. Who can ever keep up with it. It is not my intention to offend. It is simply blank. I like that it is easy to find when scrolling quickly, so it has utility.

It is not a form of protest Ron. It is a blank avatar. Why do you care?

The point is that I have no idea how or if the Terms and Rules will be enforced. I asked for clarification, and absent that, I have changed my behavior to be cautious. I take the TAR at face value and might one day regret not taking it seriously.

Peter

if you have such problems and anxiety posting here why do you keep doing so ? You always find such trivia to try and make your points yet you continue to post here. I like your black avatar Peter. I think it’s a perfect choice

I didn't write that I care; I wrote that it seems silly.

Who said I have problems and anxiety posting here, Steve? I was simply answering Mike's question. You jumped on within minutes, so it does not seem trivial for you to notice and criticise me.

BTW, I think your avatar is perfect too.

I'm just glad there hasn't been a death in your family Peter. That is what a blacked out profile pic usually means.
