Steve,

Reports cited his "need for shoulder surgery and longstanding issues with his back". It's a bit surprising to hear him stepping down since a month ago, he just announced that he decided to stay on as president of basketball operations for the Pacers.

I read too that he managed to build this Pacers team under the cap and still when he needed to sign a player, he would report to the owner and the owner will always question him. It's not like he's $30m over the cap. Anyway, that's my own speculation. Nowadays, it's tough to be a GM, they get swung around quite a lot. Latest is Danny Ferry moving from the Spurs to the Hawks.

Well, there were some stories swirling that after the blotched trade for OJ Mayo near the trade deadline, Ray was still smarting from that fact that he was expendable. Then his shooting really went down in the playoffs, partly due to his ankle but in the end, it's still how much money he wants to stay or move. He got $10m last season and he sure would be looking for a 2 or 3 year deal with Boston for a little less money. Miami, OTOH, can only offer a mid-level exception of $3m or worse, a $1m veteran's minimum for his to 'win another ring'. I recall that was what Shaq got in his career's last season with the C's.

I personally want to see Ray come back with the C's but on a 6th man role. Again, there were buzz that he didn't like that role while young Avery Bradley took his place. Seeing him in a Heat uniform will be like adding insult to injury but this is a free wheeling league and anything can happen. Garnett is coming back for the C's, and if Allen doesn't sign up with the C's, they have to start looking for a great shooter in the Free Agent list.

Lamar Odom moves to LA - the Clippers. Homecoming of sorts to the team that drafted him in the first round many years ago. Will he be the same 6th man of the year from 2 years ago? He can help in the improvement of the Clippers next season if he plays like his old self.

Wonder if my Lakers will make their best moves yet .. tie Jimmy Buss down and let Mike Kuptchak run the show? Really ... Looks like I will be forced to see the Heat and OKC alternate for championships for a while ... with a pepering f Pacers or someone from the East:mad:

On that note, the eastern teams should be looking at free agents that could help them stop the Heat from advancing to the Finals on a silver plate each year. Big players with strong interior defense will be important to battle the drives on Lebron each time he sees an open lane. Boston needs as true center, even as early as last season, and a Roy Hibbert type of guy certainly will be welcome. Free Agent Madness starts in 30 minutes.

And now, Dwight Howard wants to be traded agaiin - to the Nets.

:D

Derron Williams might want to stay put if they get Dwight ... THings are getting pretty interesting in the NBA ...

And if Willams comes, Kidd follows according to reports as Deron's backup. The Nets need a LOT of help! Howard and Willams aren't going to do it.

If we are to assume that the new billionaire owner of the Nets is willing to spend over the cap and pay the luxury tax, then they will get a lot of help from the free agent list. Right now they have a lot of money to spend prior to hitting the cap, and they can go beyond that as many teams have reached the $80m level even the last season. They may even have a Big 5. :D

And once again, the Lakers have joined the fray in getting Dwight.
