I can't wait for my A80 restoration to be complete, then I can put an order in for this beauty...;)

Christian,
Can I ask you who is carrying it?

Here is the front of Nick's new tape pre. It's a thing of beauty!

Bruce:

Other than Charlie's prototype preamp I saw once with built in VU meters, the Manley Tape Head and Ampex 351/354 Preamps are the only preamps with VU meters in my house. The VU meters (assuming they are calibrated...) are so useful in calibrating EQs. With Doshi preamp having the critical VU meters, it will be a breeze to dial them in without having to connect an external Milliammeter.

I wish mine had a set of nice round VU meters too... ;)

The unit is upgradeable. Even though I will almost never use the VU meters as I am only using one set of tape heads for which Nick calibrated the tape preamp) I am going to send mine back for upgrading.

I would guess just the main preamp should be sent without the heavy power supply unit.

That means you are assuming that Nick made no changes to the power supply. Plus, because Nick is selling all of his gear faster than he can produce it, he may not have another power supply laying around to test the preamp after he has made his changes.

Nick told me that mine is "identical" to the one with VU meters shown at RMAF and it is completely upgradeable. Nick told me that I will never need the VU meters and he's correct but now that my VU meters on the A810 don't work since modification, I would like to upgrade mine

VU meters are cool and I'm sure you will appreciate them. You will come to understand the difference between music that is recorded loud vs. music that truly has good dynamic range (if you didn't already know). VU meters are truth tellers.
