Hello,
I have a curiosity. I'm working with a pair of used Magnepan MMG and I noticed that behind the grill on the left speaker (SN ends in -1) that there are 3 circular discs running down the middle of the speaker (behind the grill cloth obviously). Behind the right speaker there is only 1 disc. So, what are these discs and is there a problem if one of the speakers has 3 and the other has 1?

Thanks,

Newb

Big panels have modes, places where the panels have peaks and valleys of excursion at frequencies related to the panel dimensions. The discs break up the modes to provide better (flatter) overall frequency response. They are usually different (in number and placement) between a pair of panels so that remaining (higher-frequency) modes are not the same for each speaker in a pair, provided flatter overall response for the pair of speakers as well as each one individually.

Normal, don't worry, enjoy your speakers!
