NFL Start Of Season

It takes guts to change QB in the middle of what many consuder a possible championship run. There is no substitute for playoff experience. He "aint no" RGIII, however he runs well.

Hope it works out

I actually like the proposal.

I'm stating the obvious, but there are no pads and helmets in rugby; people do not launch themselves as violently as they do in the NFL. And, while I don't want to say NFL athletes are better, they are more adept at making the violent bone jarring hits that we, as fans, want to see. Rugby simply is not as dangerous a game. Arguably (by others at any rate) more "manly" but not as vicious as American football.

I do to. Football is an incredibly rough (and to use the quote above, "vicious") game and is becoming more so due to the speed, weight and athleticism of the players. While this won't eliminate some of the incredibly brutal hits, if it makes it a bit safer and still doesn't take away from the excitement of the game (it could), then giving it a try might make sense.

Some very good games this weekend

Two big games that can easily decide the NFC West is the 49ers vs Pats and the Seahawks vs the Bills

Seattle IMO looks like they are peaking at the right time and are a formidable force and with a few games left they could take the West or get in as a WC team

These next two weeks will definitely be very telling for the NFC West. As much as I dislike Carroll, he has them playing well and, dare I say, Wilson looks good.

Brady's dismantling of Houston shows how quickly NE can get a team off balance when they go up a few scores - showdown with Manning for Superbowl.

Another great NFL season.

Well I am looking forward for the next Giants game to know where I stand ... NE looks simply incredible. Brady has to be the best QB of those past 10 years. While the better QBs tend to have a set of receivers for a long time .. Brady seems to have some new and/or comletely unknown receivers every other year and the results are the same .. Damn ! They're good and Belichik is great .. simply great

On other issue .. RGIII needs to cut down on the hits.. the last one could have been career ending and I find it sooooo stupid that the coach allowed him to get back in the game ... I find bizarre that he wasn't heavily criticized for that ... RGIII must understand that the NFL is the province of 300 pounders running the 40-yard dash in less than 5 secs .. They are trained to see the QB as prey .. As a matter of fact it's the essence of the game... there is such a thing as the sideline and he must recognize that, else .. not much than 3 years before his arms become stiff and his incredible accuracy suffers ... Can you remember a QB taking so much hits not named Michael Vick? and look what happened to Vick ...

which Manning

Peyton vs Brady for the East Conference or Eli and the Giants vs Brady and the Pats in the super Bowl

Brady as always looks unstoppable

Haha was referring to Peyton. Eli will be the 9ers problem. And a big problem at that.

Frantz I remember Joe Theisman who was the victim of a career ending hit in the pocket by LT. Or Troy Aikmans career ending concussion by Lavar Arrington. Look at the giant Ben Roethliserger . Hits go with the job. The solution is for the Redskins to get better. The more options they have the less teams can key on him.

While the NFL is unkind to QBs, I think Frantz makes a valid point re Shanahan sending RGIII right back in one play later. Shanahan is under tremendous pressure to win NOW.

more reasons to run out of bounds when you see a running human tank coming at you ... he is not a huge guy like Ben Roethlisberger ..He is small and those repeated hits will get the best of him quickly..Not a bounty affair but exposed as he is as a runner he will get hit and often... Defensers have looked bad after so many whiffs... when they get the chance to get him out of the game cleanly they will, he is providing them with opportunities. He got two very serious hits in that game alone ...

Some great games tomorrow

Giants - Falcons
Broncos-Ravens
Steelers-Cowboys

49ers_Patriots @ 8:30

My predictions:Giants, Broncos, Steelers, Patriots!!

It will be interesting to see what Kaepernick does against the Pats

Indeed. Kap's ability (or inability) to beat the pressure and make the correct reads will soften the Pats for Gore. Then we can keep Brady on the sidelines.

Also key is whether we can get to Brady with a four man rush. Our rush defense will be sound. Makings of an exciting contest.

I see two problem for the niners;

They have to establish the run ... Something that has become increasingly difficult against the Pats with Vince Wilkfork, a delight to a football fan to see such a huge man with such mobility and skills. One of the best Tackle we have seen in years.

They need to slow down Brady, if they are behind early and have to play catch-up, they're in for along afternoon.. Just ask the Texans.

I have the feeling the Giants will beat the Falcons too... They are in the position they like: must-win, their backs to the wall

Frantz:

Yeah we're in agreement on the issues of the 9ers/Pats game. I recall when I first saw this game on the schedule, the Pats were not expected to have a defense. How things change as games are played. Wilfork is a beast and we will need Kap to be at his best. Regardless of outcome, I predict LaMichael James to have a good game backing up Gore.

I also agree that the Falcons will fall. Despite their great WRs, Ryan and running game, I don't feel they can play a physical game with the giants for 60 minutes.
