NFL Start Of Season

Since LT was an outside LB I'm not sure why a guard would be single blocking him. The point is if you doule or tripled him that freed up at least one player to be free. Believe me How to stop LT was the subject of every sports show in Washington,DC. We had a Hall of Fame left tackle named Joe Jacoby. The only thing that ever worked was injury.

My mistake .. Tackle not Guard .. Jacoby was one of the few who gave LT fits for a while until ... Taylor developed a move just for him.. I think he called it "geritol" .. :) Teams went a long way also trying to find another Jacoby ..

Season has been great so far with many surprise teams ... Atlanta in particular .. The Falcons keep on winning, often in an ugly fashion but they are winning...

I love football ... Already suffering from withdrawal :D

Fortunately there is the NBA when footballs winds down ...

Frantz:

This season has definitely not disappointed. I heard somebody once say that the NFL is the "best reality show on tv." I wholeheartedly agree. As for ATL, having Jones AND White is almost unfair. Add their run game and improving D...scary.

Steve:

You must frequent the same web pages as I do :D. Happy belated.

Indeed; they have found a way to win a lot of "ugly" games. Gonzalez continues to impress. Even when they look beatable, they pull of the W. The game against the Giants will be a test for them.

The Falcons continue to amaze me and they can wrap up their division this week if Tampa Bay loses

What about the Texans. They can pretty much lock up home field advantage and take the last couple of games off ;)

In spite of their record I don't believe they have what it takes to win it all and won't emerge as the victor of the National Conference

I probably agree with you but before I pass final judgment, I want to see how they perform against what is certainly one of the recognized power teams in the NFC -- the Giants. If they play close and lose, I still give them a shot. If they simply get massively outplayed and lose (by even a small scoring difference), then this will most likely be just one more year of disappointment. But at least for me, and unlike any previous season, I believe before any game starts they have a chance to win.

To any long time Falcon fans who would tell me I'm not a true fan, I don't apologize. I would only tell them that I lived in Atlanta in 1966 when they began and except for a couple of odd years (e.g. the Gritz Blitz and even the year they went to the Super Bowl), they were never really a contender, typically one dimensional and have historically fallen short of what the fan base had hoped for. And even under the current administration, while I think they are the best Falcons the have ever existed, they still have a way to go. But we are getting better every year.

I would love to be wrong in my assessment, by the way!!

Depends on which Giants team shows up: The one who beat the Packers and the Niners or the one who lost vs the Bengals and Tamp Bay?

Something weird about the Texans though they don't seem convincing.. I am not sure for example they can beat the Patriots in a Champonship game .. I tend to believe that all road to the Superbowl for AFC Superbowl contenders goes through the Pats

Atlanta Defense continue to be impressive and their offense is no slouch .. A team to watch

Actually they beat TB. I was there and Giants won with huge second half comeback.

I like the Texans as well but still feel they will not emerge from the East because the Pats with Brady seem to be peaking at the right time

I'll believe it when the Pats OL proves they can protect Brady. ;)

Texans have great defense despite losing their top LB; OTOH, they have two of the best skill players in the league: Foster and Johnson and Schaub is healthy.

Tough loss for my 49ers today vs Rams. Game was a comedy of errors with Colin Kaepernick having an occasional burst of greatness but by and large he proved he isn't quite ready for time yet. David Akers blows yet another FG in OT to snag the win

I don't see Alex Smith taking the Niners to the Superbowl ... but just a little bizarre fact .. After Tom Brady got the starting Job from Drew Bledsoe. t was Bledsoe who (I don't remember if he started or not) beat the Steelers en route to the Pats and Brady eventual Superbowl win .. So you may see Smith once in a while but I believe that they will keep Kaepernick from that point on .. A. Smith has become the Niners official clipboard holder ... Tough game. Back to the games :)

@Myles you're correct the Giants beat the Bucs ... but you got my point .. ;)

It would be a gutsy call on the part of Harbaugh to stick with Kaepernick but now it's darned if he do and darned if he don't

I also agree about Smith taking them to the Superbowl but he does have the highest pass completion rate in the league

Kaepernick can scramble though

Akers, who has been great in seasons past, is a serious question mark as the 9ers head into the postseason. He should not be on the roster beyond this season.

As for Kap, he played within the scheme and was under some pressure for most of the game. Save the intentional grounding call (where he ran back a ridiculous amount if yards) and the errant pitch, I think he played as good as Alex would have. Hopefully he learns from it as we have a few tough road games approaching.

Still can't believe we lost to the lambs...

You got my subtle comment about Akers cuz I also agree. The kid who kicked the winner for the Rams has a long and accurate toe

Michael..do you live in the SF Bay Area

No Steve. In the Los Angeles area. I have been a Bay Area sports fan (Giants and Warriors even) since '81 tho. Care to guess what got me started ;).

Had season tickets, and just put a deposit down for the Santa Clara stadium, and would love to relocate when the kids grow up tho...
