Pacific dac: Lampizator's new top of the line dac

To those curious about the brand new Pacific 2 upgrade, I am excited to report that I received one of the first units on Friday which I am presently getting some burn in hours on ahead of installing it in a reviewer's system later this month.

Even without many hours, to say the improvement over the original Pacific are 'significant' is a major understatement.

What would you say are the improvements over the Pacific?

The net differences I am hearing are night and day different than the top performance I'd gotten out of a Pacific before, but it's an unfair comparison in part because I'm also using much improved tubes.

With the Pac 2 I am using a tele RGN 2504 rectifier and P14 tubes and the sound I am getting is a much lower noise floor than Pacific of past and its just huge, open, dynamic balanced from top to bottom with exquisite tonality and analog like flow. It's a really, really good sounding piece and definitely sounds like a generational upgrade.

Just for fun, realizing it is not scientific at all, just your subjective thoughts and acknowledging tube changes, would you put the SQ of the Pacific 2 between what is shown on Lampi's Sound Quality between the Pac 1 and Horizon (i.e. 85'ish) or something lower, acknowledging that Horizon is clearly superior?

By the way, PT14 is amazing. If anyone is looking for PT14, shoot me a pm as I found a legit source.

Telefunken RGN2504, anode loading (TBD), favorite DHT prior to PT14, in order: Telefunken RS242, Visseaux TMBF1, RK242, RK PX25, then the rest..

@Jagodak - lovely though the AZ1 is, your Pac should benefit from a more powerful rectifier. There are a few decent cheap options (brimar cv1863 / Tungsram pv200/600 / valvo g2004) if you don’t want to spend too much.

Thanks, I also used EML 5u4g mesh and Valvo AZ1 mesh. In my personal opinion Tele has given me the most detailed music with lots of fun, but EML better dynamic… Still Tungsram waiting, difficult to make a decision open it or keep in original box more years cheers

I have a chance to buy pv200/600, shall I look for a specific year or production? The one looks like that. I will need adapter for sure. Thanks

Sorry but beyond the general advice of buying the earliest year possible, I don’t have any specific advice to share. Maybe @adamaley or @ronfint can help as they both have experience of this tube.
